Awkward! Rami Malek gets accidentally snubbed by Nicole Kidman on stage at Golden Globes after Bohemian Rhapsody win

  • Rami, 37, tried but failed to get the attention of Nicole, 51, on stage
  • The Australian actress had announced Rami's film Bohemian Rhapsody was the winner of Best Picture and stayed on stage as the cast came on to get the gongs
  • Earlier in the night Rami scooped Best Actor for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic

Rami Malek was hilariously snubbed by Nicole Kidman during the 76th annual Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday.

The 37-year-old actor was on stage when his film Bohemian Rhapsody picked up Best Picture and attempted to converse with presenter Nicole Kidman on several occasions, who awkwardly did not appear to notice him.

The funny snub was captured by Twitter user @1AbbyRoad, who cemented the moment's meme status by captioning it: 'Rami Malek trying to talk to Nicole Kidman is like me trying to talk to my crush #goldenglobes'.

Rami was filmed trying to engage Nicole, 51, in conversation twice, before rushing over and placing a hand on the small of her back, which still did not make the Australian actress turn around and acknowledge him.

Despite the awkward moment, it was still a big night for Rami, who picked up his first Golden Globe for playing Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.

The star was overcome with emotion as he beat out a talented field for the Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama category.

Rami had been up against Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born), Willem Dafoe (At Eternity's Gate), Lucas Hedges (Boy Erased) and John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman) for the gong.

Taking to the stage to accept his award, he mused: 'I'm beyond moved,' adding, 'My heart is pounding out of my chest right now.'

He continued: 'This is a profound honor to receive this, and to be counted among such extraordinary actors... I am privileged to be counted among you.'

Rami went on to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for, 'this incredible recognition, while thanking, 'everyone who worked so tirelessly to make this film what it is... In the process, they gave me this incredible family of actors.'

Rami also thanked producers Graham King and Denis O'Sullivan, who worked, 'over a decade to ensure this story would be told,' and 20th Century Fox and New Regency for, 'believing in us when no one else would.'

He ended his speech by thanking Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor, 'for ensuring that authenticity and inclusivity exists in the music and in the world and in all of us'

'Thank you to Freddie Mercury, for giving me the joy of a lifetime. I love you, you beautiful man. This is for, and because of, you, gorgeous,' he concluded.
