'She never had me on her show, ever': Anjelica Huston says Oprah Winfrey has held a grudge since she beat her for the 1986 best supporting actor Oscar

Anjelica Huston claims Oprah Winfrey has held a grudge against her since the talk show queen lost out to her for the best supporting actress Oscar in 1986.

‘She never had me on her show, ever,’ Huston told Vulture. ‘She won’t talk to me.’

Huston won the Academy Award for her role in Prizzi’s Honor, a film directed by her father, John Huston.

Her co-star in the movie, Jack Nicholson, was also her boyfriend at the time.

Huston, her father, and Nicholson were nominated for Academy Awards, but Anjelica was the only winner.

Winfrey earned a nomination for her role in The Color Purple, which was also her film debut.

She says she only had one encounter with Winfrey.

‘The only encounter I’ve had with Oprah was when I was at a party for the Academy Awards, a private residence,’ Huston says.

‘I was talking to Clint Eastwood, and she literally came between us with her back to me.

‘So all of the sudden I was confronted with the back of Oprah’s head.’

When asked if she believes Oprah has snubbed her over the Oscar, Huston replied: ‘Well, nobody else would dislike me so much as to literally, physically come in between the person I was talking with that way.

‘But I admire Oprah. God knows, she’s made some big steps.’

Winfrey did not comment on Huston’s claims.

Interestingly enough, The Color Purple, which was directed by Steven Spielberg, was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including best picture, best actress, and best supporting actress, yet did not win in any category.

Whoopi Goldberg did not win the best actress Oscar, though she did win the Golden Globe for her work on the film.

The Color Purple was a film adaptation of the novel by Alice Walker.

It tells the story of a young African American girl (played by Goldberg) who suffers abuse in early 20th century in rural Georgia but is helped by two female companions.

Prizzi’s Honor is a comedy-drama starring Nicholson, Huston, and Kathleen Turner.

Nicholson plays a mob hit man who dumps his longtime girlfriend (Huston) to pursue a different woman, played by Turner.

In one of the few instances in which Winfrey has talked about that Oscar night in 1986, she said she had a wardrobe malfunction.

‘When I went to the Oscars, it was one of the most horrible nights of my life,’ she told Jimmy Kimmel in 2012.

She said she needed to take her dress back to get it altered.

‘I had used Dolly Parton’s dressmaker,’ Winfrey told Kimmel.

‘And he’d come over to [do] some fitting earlier in the day and then said, “I need to take it back.”

‘When he brought it back, I didn’t try it on. So when I went to put it on half an hour before going to the Oscars, it didn’t fit.

‘I couldn’t get it up over my hips.

‘So my hairdresser… had to lay me on the floor and push my butt down and zip and so I rode to the Oscars, really no exaggeration, planked in the back of a limousine.’
