Paula Abdul delights fans by bringing back MC Skat Kat for Opposites Attract duet... after accidentally hitting Julianne Hough in the neck with her hat during Billboards performance

  • The 56 year old singer performed a medley of her hits to close out the Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday night
  • She performed hits from her debut album including Forever My Girl, Straight Up, Cold Hearted and more
  • Abdul also brought back the animated MC Skat Kat from her music video for Opposites Attract during her medley
  • Her show-stopping performance comes just weeks after her father Harry passes away, and a year after her mom Lorraine passed
  • The performance hit a slight snag when Abdul accidentally hit Julianne Hough in the neck with her hat while tossing it aside

Paula Abdul closed out the 2019 Billboard Music Awards with a medley of her biggest hits with the Billboard Music Awards Throwback.

Her throwback performance comes on the 30th anniversary of the 56 year old singer becoming the first female artist to have four Billboard #1 singles from her debut album.

Abdul surprised fans when she walked down the aisle of the Grand Garden Arena and tossed her top hat, hitting actress/dancer Juilanne Hough in the neck, and also in bringing back the animated MC Skat Kat from her Opposites Attract music video.

Abdul began her medley with a performance of her hit Straight Up, when she stopped to toss her hat away, but it hit Hough, sitting in the front row, in the neck.

While the toss certainly surprised Hough, she took it all in stride, turning and smiling at the camera as Abdul strode up to the stage with the rest of her dancers. H

Hough later made light of the incident on Twitter, tweeting, 'Me: Paula Abdul: DID. THAT' with the hashtag #BBMAs.

She also sang It's Just the Way That You Love Me, but then had another surprise for fans, bringing back the animated MC Skat Kat from her Opposites Attract music video.

The animated cat was first seen on a massive video screen behind Abdul, but then after she motioned for the cat to join her, he did, dancing on stage with her.

Abdul also sang Cold Hearted and the title track for her 1988 debut, Forever My Girl, with her performance featuring some incredible acrobats with the singer diving from a platform into the arms of several dancers.

Abdul's performance also comes weeks after the passing of her father Harry, and a year after the passing of her mother, Lorraine.

She opened up about losing her parents during a red carpet interview with E! before the awards show, saying her return to the stage is for them.

'For me, I think if you align yourself in that heart space what you love to do, then you’re on the right path,' she began.

'You have to be willing to make sharp left turns and sharp right turns … It’s hard to make it in this business. You can’t take things too seriously, and as I get older the more I’m in the moment, the more I appreciate everything that’s going on. I’m doing it for my mom and my dad!'
