'I don't want your toxic diet culture!' Iskra Lawrence SPITS OUT detox tea in an Instagram clip as she becomes the latest celebrity to slam the products - and the stars who promote them

  • The plus-size model, 28, shared her opinion about detox tea on Instagram
  • In a post, she showed herself spitting out tea and included a lengthy caption
  • Iskra bashed the companies selling detox products and criticized celebrities who chose to take their money by advertising them on their own pages
  • The model's criticism echos what actress Jameela Jamil has been saying all along about the detox products on social media
  • She often criticisms celebrities, including the Kardashians, for advertising
  • Despite the constant criticism, Kardashians continue to promote the potentially dangerous products on their feeds to earn a quick dollar

Plus-size model Iskra Lawrence has taken a dramatic stand against weight loss and detox teas on Instagram, making her position on the products clear by sharing a video of herself actually spitting the beverage out.

The 28-year-old fashion star further cemented her status as a body positivity advocate with a post, which was shared last week, revealing that she has turned down multiple offers to promote detox teas. Many other stars, including the Kardashians, have willingly advertised similar products to their millions of followers.

'I don't want your detox tea, I don't want your toxic diet culture, I don’t want to pick up a bag for promoting a diet, I don’t want to join a bunch of celebs who have enough money to not promote something that could damage the health of their followers,' Iskra wrote while sharing a video of herself spitting out tea.

In the clip, Iskra is seen wearing a pair of leggings and a sports bra from Aerie — a body positive brand for which she works as a role model and ambassador — while perched on a kitchen counter.

She is holding a mug in one hand, which apparently held the tea that she is seen violently ejecting from her mouth.

As well as the video, the post also contained an email she received from the brand Teami about advertising for the teas.

In the email, the company boasted about previously working with Cardi B, Kylie Jenner and Lisa Rinna when advertising their weight-loss products. But the examples did not sell Iskra on joining the team.

'It’s been years since I’ve spoken against detox tea because I didn’t want to give the industry anymore attention but I STILL get emails with offers,' Iskra wrote.

'No $$ in the world (and they offer more than any other brand has for posting) would ever “incentivise” me to post about detox tea and there was multiple emails sent to my team just last week!!!'

Brands like Teami and Flat Tummy Co. have saturated the Instagram feeds with products promoted by celebrities that promise to suppress the appetite, slim the stomach and promote weight loss.

The Good Place actress Jameela Jamil, 33, established herself as a voice against this industry and those, specifically the Kardashian family, who support the potentially damaging products.

She previously tweeted against the family, writing: 'Their pockets are lined with the blood and diarrhea of teenage girls.'

Iskra, who worked with Jameela on the body positive and unretouched Aerie campaign earlier this year, echoed Jameela's thoughts on the products by sharing with her followers how the detox teas harmed her own body.

'I actually got sucked into buying a detox weight loss tea when I was a teenager, at the time I had body dysmorphia and ED and would do anything to lose weight,' she confessed.

'So an online marketed tea that would make you drop inches fast and was “healthy, vegan etc” had me grab my parents card (so sorry) and order a “monthly supply”.'

The model was mad at herself for falling for the trick advertisements surrounding the weight-loss product, but she admitted to feeling 'desperate' at the time to lose weight.

'I’m so embarrassed that I ever felt that desperate but I was not mentally healthy and I was taken advantage of with marketing and that’s why I’m so passionate about challenging the way the media advertises and the messaging that’s used to make us “motivated consumers”,' she continued, saying the diet culture should be made illegal or include health warnings.

Time and time again celebrities experience backlash when they advertise for the detox teas or appetite-suppressing lollipops, to name a few, without disclosing potential harmful side effects.

Both Kim and Khloe Kardashian have received the brunt of Jameela's criticism in recent years because she thinks their promotion of the product is harming young consumers.

Earlier this year, Khloe shared a picture of her post-baby body while crediting detox shakes as helping her get her figure. She later deleted the post after experience an abundance of criticism, fueled by Jameela, from the public.

In a recent New York Times article, the Kardashians were asked about the backlash from Jameela — and their response only prompted the actress to accuse them of making money off 'the blood and diarrhea of teenage girls' with 'eating disorders'.

When asked about the criticism, Kris said: 'I don't live in that negative energy space. Ninety percent of people will be really excited about the family and the journey and who we are.'

Her five daughters  — Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie — have each advertised a range of weight loss products on social media, including detox teas, appetite-suppressing lollipops and waist trainers.

Kris then shares in the the profits of the brand endorsements with her role as momager. She also recently benefited financially by promoting the diet shakes on her own Instagram page in March.

The Kardashian women were specifically asked about Jameela's comment on Khloe's now-deleted picture calling them 'irresponsible'.

While speaking to the New York Times, Khloe said she's never had a chef and often shares her personal training sessions on Snapchat for others to know her steps to achieving her figure.

'Well, listen, I am showing you what to do, silly person, 15 repetitions, three times, here's the move…' Khloe said. It remains unclear if she was calling Jameela the 'silly person' in the quote.

Kim was also unapologetic about what she and her sisters commit to regarding product endorsements by claiming the opportunities were best for their kids.

'If there is work that is really easy that doesn't take away from our kids, that's like a huge priority, if someone was faced with the same job opportunities, I think they would maybe consider,' Kim told the newspaper.

'You're going to get backlash for almost everything so as long as you like it or believe in it or it's worth it financially, whatever your decision may be, as long as you're OK with that.'
