Halle Berry reveals she was offered the star-making role in Speed before Sandra Bullock but she 'stupidly' turned it down

Halle Berry teams up with Keanu Reeves for the first time in next month's highly-anticipated John Wick 3: Parabellum, but Berry surprisingly revealed they almost worked together 25 years ago.

Berry, 52, was asked by Entertainment Tonight in a joint interview with Reeves, 54, if they have ever worked together before, when Berry said they 'almost did.'

'I was offered Speed before Sandy Bullock, 'Berry said during the interview, adding 'I stupidly said no,' but she had a good reason.

'But in my defense, when I read the script the bus didn't leave the parking lot,' Berry added about the earlier version of the script.

'I was like no, no, no, no. Then I see the movie and I'm like, arrrrghh,' she said, but added she had no regrets about passing on what would become a huge hit.

'I was in it well before these fine people,' she added, saying she was offered the role before Reeves. 'They were offering me the parking lot version.'

Speed would go on to make $350.4 million worldwide, from just a $30 million budget during its theatrical run in 1994.

'I worked six months, probably almost five days a week training, Berry said, while also revealing how much she worked with her canine co-stars.

'I worked with these dogs a lot so they could get to know me and I could get to know them,' Berry added. 'And I could command them on the day and wrangle them a little bit if things went crazy.'

Berry plays Sofia in John Wick 3: Parabellum, a mysterious figure from John Wick's (Reeves) past who is also a deadly assassin like Wick.

At the end of John Wick 2, a $14 million bounty was put on Wick's head, after killing a member of the assassin's guild known as the High Table.

During her interview, Berry broke down a pivotal action sequence she shot with Reeves, which marked the culmination of six months of training.

'We had a scene where we were in Berrada's (Jerome Flynn) office, when we're on a rug and we had to take down like 12, 14, 15 some-odd guys together on a rug and I thought, 'Hmm, how is this going to work?' she said.

'How are we not going to knock each other out and throw our guys? This isn't going to happen,' she continued.

'And then I remember when we did it I felt so much pride. I felt like, 'Holy sh*t, I just did a movie with Keanu on a rug and we did this sh*t!' she enthused.

'I was so amped. That was the moment that it hit me that I was working with Keanu and I was a part of this this franchise that I had loved so long,' Berry concluded.
