Olivia Wilde glitters in gold dress at Billboard Music Awards with Booksmart stars Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever

Her directorial debut, Booksmart, is set to hit theaters nationwide in just over three weeks.

But Olivia Wilde stepped away from the film world on Wednesday night as she headed to the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas.

The 35-year-old actress-turned-director was joined on the red carpet by Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever, the stars of her forthcoming movie.

Wilde glittered in a floor-length gold dress with a slit that showed off just a hint of her long legs.

She clamped a black belt with a large gold buckle around her waist, highlighting her slender frame.

The Drinking Buddies star added a couple inches to her 5ft 7in gold platform heels and looked to be going to be almost accessory free.

Her long blonde tresses were pulled back into an elegant bun, and she left a few locks free to frame her face.

The 25-year-old actress left her brunette tresses unencumbered and they tumbled over her shoulders in thick waves.

Kaitlyn sported and all sliver ensemble that featured a long coat and matching slacks.

Her brunette locks were pulled into a simple ponytail and she painted her lips a soft pink.

The trio presented the first award of the night, with Wilde opening saying, 'When you're directing a movie with a lot of night shoots, there is only one way to keep everyone awake and excited is...'

Beanie and Kaitlyn both chimed 'music,' while Wilde joked, 'Adderall.'

After some laughter, they presented the Billboard Award for Top R&B Artist, awarding Ella Mai with the prize.

In a stark contrast to Olivia's shimmery gold number, British singer Ella, 24, opted to wear a chic all-black leather ensemble that featured bike shorts and a perfectly-tailored blazer.

She topped off the look with a pair of black sock boots, and a black turtleneck.

Meanwhile her dark hair was slicked back into a tight topknot by celebrity hairstylist and OGX brand ambassador Kahh Spence, who said of the inspiration behind the style: 'For tonight’s look, we wanted to do something sleek. We decided to go with a top knot bun that also had some natural, undone tendrils to frame Ella’s face.'

The hair pro worked with products from OGX in order to create the look, revealing that he began by using the Protecting + Silky Blowout Thermal Primer Cream to protect Ella's tresses from heat styling.

Then, he blow dried her hair straight, and began to slick it back into a high ponytail, using the OGX Replenishing + Water Drops 8-in-1 Mist to 'create that sleek and shiny look'.

Once the ponytail was secured - with just a few tendrils of hair left loose to frame Ella's face - Kahh locked the style in place with the brand's Bodifying + Bamboo Fiber Full Big Hair Spray, before twisting it up into the top knot.

To give the loose pieces at the front a more natural feel, Kahh applied the OGX Aspen Extract Dry Texturizing Spray and the Natural Finish + Aspen Extract Texture Molding paste, before finally securing the style with the Smooth + Shea Sleek Humidity Blocking hairspray.

Once the hair was done, celebrity makeup artist Emily Cheng worked with the singer to create a bold look for the red carpet that centered around a red lip.

The beauty pro used Avya skincare products to prep Ella's complexion, and then used the Revlon PhotoReady Rose Glow Hydrating & Illuminating Primer to give her a stunning natural glow, which was accentuated with the brand's PhotoReady Candid Foundation.

But while Ella's complexion and subtle smokey eye - created using the ColorStay Looks Book Palette in Maverick - made a stunning impression on the carpet, the show-stealer was most certainly the bold red lip.

Emily first used the Revlon Lip Liner in Sienna all over Ella's lips, before applying the Ultra HD Matte Lip Mousse in Red Hot, creating the perfect pepper-hot pout for the night.
