Remy Ma arrested and held in custody after turning herself in to authorities over alleged assault on Brittney Taylor

Remy Ma was taken into custody in her native New York City Wednesday after turning herself into authorities amid reality star Brittney Taylor's claims the music artist assaulted her at a benefit show last month.

Police told TMZ that the Bronx native, 38, was accompanied by her lawyer when she turned herself in to New York City's 13th Precinct, and officials booked her on a misdemeanor assault charge.

Taylor, a 29-year-old Love & Hip Hop personality, was hospitalized April 16 after she said that Ma hit her right eye. She said the attack occurred after she and Ma had 'exchanged words' in the green room of a benefit concert held at Irving Plaza near Union Square at around 9:30 p.m. that evening.

Taylor had requested police keep intact video footage of the attack caught on a surveillance camera, and any other evidence in the ongoing probe, as she's working on a civil lawsuit against the Lean Back singer, TMZ reported.

'This arrest demonstrates how serious this matter is, it is real life and not reality TV entertainment,' Lawyer Sanford Rubenstein, who's representing Taylor in the case, said in a statement to E!. 'The victim Brittney Taylor has confidence in our system of justice and will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities.'

The All the Way Up artist remains in custody and was expected to be arraigned Thursday afternoon, the Manhattan District Attorney's told E!.

The office told the outlet it could not 'provide guidance' how the arrest would impact Ma's past legal entanglements stemming from her 2008 intentional assault conviction in a shooting the year before; and a parole period that doesn't expire until August 1.

Ma, whose real name is Reminisce Smith, served six years of an eight-year sentence from 2008 until 2014 at New York's Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women, after she was convicted over the July 2007 shooting of a woman named Makeda Barnes-Joseph.

Police told the outlet that Ma's arrest was delayed because Taylor 'embarrassed to report it at the time,' and 'ended up filing April 17,' the day after it happened.

Taylor took to Instagram to show off physical injuries she had suffered in the wake of the alleged attack. She captioned the post, 'So, here am I on my way to a very important meeting and it’s hard to even focus because of what occurred last night. I didn’t wanna bring it to social media because Its pretty embarrassing and not a good look tbh.

'I tried my best to cover it up with make up and move on but that still didn’t work. My Question is @remyma why did you really do this? #WHATHAPPENEDTOWOMANEMPOWERMENT #BlackLove? Smh.'
