Kelly Clarkson, 37, has surgery to remove appendix after hosting Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas
Kelly Clarkson after hosting the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas had her appendix removed Thursday in Los Angeles.
The 37-year-old singer in addition to hosting Wednesday also performed two different musical numbers during the three-hour show televised on NBC.
Clarkson had been suffering all week from a painful episode of appendicitis, according to an article Thursday by ET.

The American Idol winner flew home to Los Angeles after the awards ceremony and surgery was performed Thursday morning.
Clarkson was at home resting and recuperating and planned to be on The Voice on Monday for the live show.
The singer admitted on Twitter on Thursday afternoon that she was in tears-inducing pain while hosting.
'Not gonna lie.... I may or may not have broken down in tears after the show from pain BUT thanks 2 all the amazing people @ Cedars-Sinai I flew home directly after the event, nailed the surgery early this morning, & feeling awesome now! Bye bye appendix,' she tweeted to her more than 12 million followers.
'#TheShowMustGoOn,' she added.

She performed a musical medley early during the BBMAs and later performed her new song Broken & Beautiful from the UglyDolls movie.
The Voice coach has two singers in the top 13 after viewers voted in Rod Stokes and she saved Jej Vinson.
Clarkson has been busy lately promoting the animated musical UglyDolls in which she has a starring voice role as Moxy.

The movie is based on the plush toys of the same name and also features the voices of Nick Jonas, Janelle Monáe, Pitbull, Blake Shelton, Bebe Rexha and Emma Roberts.
UglyDolls was scheduled to be released Friday by STX Entertainment.
The mother of two also will host her own talk show The Kelly Clarkson Show set to premiere on September 9.
Clarkson won the inaugural season of American Idol in 2002.
She also has won the past two seasons of The Voice as a coach.
