Game Of Thrones fans joke that Sansa Stark is the 'coffee cup culprit' of show blunder as snap emerges of Sophie Turner holding a matching beverage

Season 8, episode 4 had fans reeling as they spied a takeout cup sat on the table in the Great Hall in front of character Daenerys Targaryen.

And Game Of Thrones fans joked on Wednesday that it was Sophie Turner's character Sansa Stark who was behind the surprise appearance of the beverage.

Sharing an image of the actress beside Lyanna Mormont star Bella Ramsey, Sophie was seen holding a coffee cup that seemed to match the offending item.

Game Of Thrones bosses have since ordered the surprise coffee cup be edited out for streaming and catch-up.

It will now no longer appear in the episode when watched on services such as HBO Go, Sky, Now TV or when it's released on DVD.

The official GOT Twitter account poked fun at the blunder by tweeting: 'News from Winterfell. The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.'

The misplaced cup appeared to undermine the credibility of the hit show on Sunday evening, with fans complaining the week before that the editing was way too dark to see what was going on.

Fans stayed up late to watch an eventful fourth episode as the long-running fantasy drama, now in its eighth season, prepares for a bloody conclusion in little more than a fortnight’s time.

But they were spitting their cocoa out after spotting the beverage in Winterfell’s Great Hall, in a pivotal scene for Jon Snow and the united army of Wildlings, Unsullied and Dothraki warriors.

More familiar with a horn of ale than a coconut cappuccino, Jon and Daenerys appeared oblivious to the offending cup, placed on one of the hall's long trestle-tables, as their raucous celebrations kicked off the episode.

But the gaffe was not lost on eagle-eyed viewers, who promptly expressed their disbelief on social media.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: 'So this is where we're at now! A Starbucks cup!'

While another joked: 'If that’s Dany’s Starbucks coffee I feel bad for the barista who has to write her name on the cup.... hand must be cramping.'

'I missed the story arc where dany discovers pumpkin spice lattes,' wrote a third.

Another fan dismissed claims that the cup had been Photoshopped onto the scene for comical effect, writing: 'It isn’t I just rewatched the scene on hbo now is that a candle or something wtf.' (sic)

The blunder comes as season eight gears up for a dramatic climax at Kings Landing over the course of its final two episodes.
