Serena Williams opts for comfort in star print jumper as she enjoys a stroll with daughter Olympia, 20 months, in Rome ahead of the Italian Open

She was the picture of sophistication as she attended the Met Gala alongside her handsome husband Alexis Ohanian on Monday.

But Serena Williams was back to mummy duties as she enjoyed a breezy stroll along the streets of Rome with daughter Alexis Olympia Jr., 20 months, on Saturday, ahead of her return to the Italian Open tennis tournament later this week.

The sportswoman, 37, opted for a low-key appearance as she donned a cosy black jumper, embellished with star printing throughout.

Reach for the stars like Serena in n:Philanthropy

It would be rude not to cover yourself in stars, when you are indeed a world famous tennis celebrity, so Serena Williams did just that when she stepped out in Rome on Saturday.

Opting to combine style and comfort, she teamed a star-embellished black sweater from n:Philanthropy, a fashion brand which gives back to charities and good causes, with black leggings and trainers for her stroll. She wore her sweat over a plain white tee and accessorized with a red across-body box bag and a Nike baseball cap.

Stars seem to be having a fashion moment (still!) and can be found all over the high street, as well as within designers brands, emblazoned across tops, dresses and skirts, but a sweat or jumper is an easy way to inject some fun into your everyday wardrobe.

We’ve found Serena’s sweat still in stock at n:Philanthropy for just over $188, plus, we’ve pulled together some other great options for sweats and jumpers, from across the high street.

Keeping up with her casual outfit, the professional tennis player teamed her ensemble with a pair of cropped leggings, running trainers and a baseball cap by Nike.

The mother-of-one added a touch of glamour to her dressed-down look as she accessorised with a red leather cross-body bag.

Exhibiting her naturally glowing complexion, Serena, who is one of the world's leading female athletes, went make-up free and styled her blonde tresses into a loose ponytail.

Serena is set to return from injury at the upcoming Italian Open. She has not played since withdrawing from her third-round match at the Miami Open in March with a previously undisclosed left knee injury.

The fashion designer hasn't played in Rome since winning her fourth title at the clay-court event in 2016, when she beat Madison Keys in the final.

Earlier this week, the Michigan native served as a chair for the lavish Met Gala, alongside Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Gucci designer, Alessandro Michele, Vogue editor, Anna Wintour.

Serena made a head-turning appearance with Reddit founder Alexis, 36, who she wed in September 2017, at the event.

The Met Gala is the annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute and is the most glittery and exclusive event on the New York fashion calendar.

It is famous for attracting luminaries of Hollywood, of fashion, music, sports, TV and the stage for an evening of fashion and charity to mark the museum's spring exhibit.

This year, the exhibit and gala are dedicated to the idea of 'camp,' as defined by Susan Sontag's 1964 essay Notes on 'Camp.
