Filthy Rich first look: Kim Cattrall oozes southern charm as wealthy pastor's wife with a dark side in upcoming dramedy

Fox has released the drama-laden trailer for Kim Cattrall's upcoming series, Filthy Rich.

The 62-year-old Sex and the City alum is turning off her Samantha Jones sex appeal and turning on her southern charm to play tough-as-nails family matriarch Margaret Monreaux.

Cattrall's character is the wife of a wealthy CEO of a Christian network who dies unexpectedly in the new series titled Filthy Rich.

The first shot of Cattrall in the trailer sees her comically floating down from the rafters on stage dressed as an angel as her husband introduces her to a crowd.

However a twisted plot is quickly revealed that is anything but angelic.

The Southern set series comes from the executive producer of Empire and the writer and director of The Help, with Cattrall also serving in the role of producer.

Described as a 'southern gothic family drama,' which centers around 'two strong, sharp women who will go to any lengths to protect their loved ones and get their due.'

The plot: Cattrall's character is the wife of a wealthy CEO of a Christian network who dies unexpectedly in a plane crash, exposing secret children that he fathered out of wedlock
The husband: Actor Gerald McRaney played the ill fated head of the network

Much of the back-stabbing and jaw-dropping moments in the trailer seem to come from Cattrall and actress Melia Kreiling butting heads over the family fortune.

According to the official log line of the show: 'When the patriarch of a mega-rich Southern family, famed for creating a wildly successful Christian television network, dies in a plane crash, his wife and family are stunned to learn that he fathered three illegitimate children, all of whom are written into his will, threatening their family name and fortune.'

'With monumental twists and turns, Filthy Rich presents a world in which everyone has an ulterior motive – and no one is going down without a fight.'

The trailer depicts the HBO vet as a smart, sassy southerner who is sweet as pie on the outside but playing dirty behind closed doors when it comes to her family.

Margaret sets out to humiliate one of her late husband's daughters in the trailer by having her show up to an event dressed ridiculously like Scarlett O'Hara, only to be spectacularly foiled when her plan backfires.

Filthy Rich is dripping with drama and a soapy quality that will likely make the characters in the show the ones you love to hate and hate to love.
