Britney Spears is pictured driving in Los Angeles on Wednesday amid her legal battle to gain more freedom from the ongoing conservatorship over her affairs.

Looking downcast the 37-year-old took the wheel of her Mercedes SUV with her bodyguard in the passenger seat as she made her way to a Starbucks.

Britney covered her eyes with mirrored aviators with her hair tied up in a ponytail and appeared stony-faced as she stayed focused on the road. 

The outing came as a California judge has ordered an investigation into everybody who manages the financial affairs, medical care and personal life of Britney.

The judge wants 'a thorough investigation of all the players' involved in maintaining the Toxic singer's affairs, according to documents obtained by The Blast.

The judge in Britney's case has ordered a probate court investigator to take a look at those overseeing the conservatorship, including her father Jamie Spears.

The conservatorship was enacted in 2008, following Britney's public 2007 breakdown and subsequent hospitalization.

A conservatorship is a 'court case where a judge appoints a responsible person or organization to care for another adult who cannot care for himself or herself or manage his or her own finances,' according to the California Judicial Branch. 

Jamie has taken a lead role in overseeing Britney's affairs, however The Blast also reported that recently the singer's mother Lynne 'has been staying with the singer ever since she made a move to join the conservatorship and take a greater role in caring for her daughter'.

According to the gossip site, the court investigator will look at 'medical and financial records, including custody agreements and even contractual obligations … such as her Las Vegas residency.' and decide whether the constraints of her conservatorship should be loosened or modified.

The report follows claims by Britney's longtime manager Larry Rudolph that the singer may never perform again amid her mental health battle.

The singer was scheduled to resume rehearsals for her Britney: Domination Las Vegas residency after rescheduling the concert earlier this year, but according to the former entertainment lawyer, Britney will not return to the stage.

Larry, 55, told TMZ: 'As the person who guides her career -- based on the information I and all of the professionals who work with her are being told on a need-to-know basis -- from what I have gathered it's clear to me she should not be going back to do this Vegas residency, not in the near future and possibly never again.'

Meanwhile, Britney's mom Lynne on Monday told TMZ that the Gimme More artist is doing 'wonderfully,' as controversy continues to swirl around the Grammy-winner and the conservatorship currently commandeered by Jamie, 66.

The Sometimes vocalist is currently at the center of a social media campaign dubbed #FreeBritney, which was set up by her fans concerned that she's trapped and being controlled by those closest to her.

Lynne - who wants to take a role in the conservatorship if it remains in place - is adamant the singer is thriving.

Lynne 'has always wanted to have a position in Britney's conservatorship,' a source told ET, and has tried at different points over for years to have some sort of say.'

Amid speculation how Lynne is involved, a source told US that 'reports that Lynne is trying to help Britney loosen the constraints of the conservatorship are false,' and that 'if anything, Lynne wants Britney back in treatment, and that angers Britney.'

It was initially thought Spears checked herself into an unnamed facility for 30 days after she became 'distraught' over her dad's ongoing health battle, as Jamie ruptured his colon last November.

However, the pop superstar appeared in front of a judge in Los Angeles last week and alleged that Jamie was the one responsible for having her committed to rehab.

She argued that under the rules of the conservatorship, Jamie does not have the power to either commit her against her will or make her take prescription pills.

The hearing, which was attended by Britney, her parents and a court-appointed lawyer, was held to assess the need for the singer to remain under the conservatorship of her dad.

On Friday, Britney left the court barefoot and is understood to have asked for more freedoms under the conservatorship, but the request was not granted during the closed hearing. 

According to E!, the judge ordered an expert evaluation of Britney's situation and a status hearing (the star doesn't have to attend) was set for September 18.

Britney - who has two sons, Sean, 13, and Jayden, 12, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline - wants the conservatorship to end, or to be granted more freedoms.
