Royal fans were sent into a frenzy after the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in a dress that looked just like one worn by Princess Diana yesterday.

Kate, 37, donned the £1,750 Alessandra Rich frock for her outing to a D-Day exhibition at Bletchley Park, the home of the Second World War codebreakers.

Social media users were quick to note Princess Diana owned a similar midi dress, which she wore for a photo call at Kensington Palace in 1985.

Several praised Kate for the subtle tribute to her late mother-in-law, while one said it proved 'good taste never goes out of style'.

Another wrote: 'I think it is a nice way to pay tribute to her mother in law she never got to meet.'

A third added: 'I absolutely LOVE all the "subtle" tributes to Princess Diana. She was beautiful, kind and loved by many.'

Kate looked ready for spring in her flattering mid-length dress yesterday, which she previously wore for Prince Charles' official 70th birthday portraits last year.

The frock features pretty white buttons and a vintage-inspired contrast collar and cuffs.

Following one of her favourite trends, Kate plumped for head-to-toe blue and paired the frock with a pair of £425 suede court shoes by Emmy London and a £450 navy Panama Purse by Smythson.

She finished the look with her signature bouncy blow-dry and a pair of delicate pearl drop earrings.

Princess Diana wore her take on the feminine look for photos taken in her living room at Kensington Palace in October 1985.

Pick polka dots like the Duchess of Cambridge in Alessandra Rich

You might recognize the Alessandra Rich dress that the Duchess of Cambridge is wearing in at Bletchley Park today, and it's not just because Kate has been recycling her outfits again.

Suits star Abigail Spencer wore this very same style to attend the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding last year, and we heard a lot of people say it was their favorite dress of the day (apart from Meghan's of course!).

We love the vintage-inspired contrast collar and cuffs on this dress, which is typical of the Alessandra Rich atheistic. Polka dots are a huge trend right now, and you really can't go wrong with classic navy and white, right? Oh we can't forget to mention quite how flattering the pleated skirt is.

Sadly this exact midi has now sold out, but click (right) to buy something similar by the label, or check out the best of the rest below.
