A fan appeared to kick and punch Sunderland defender Luke O'Nien during Thursday's ill-tempered League One play-off clash, with the player saying he was asked by police if he wanted to press charges. O'Nien went tumbling over the advertising hoardings and into the stand following a challenge with Tom Naylor in the second-half at Fratton Park.   TV footage showed a fan aim a kick and a punch at the Sunderland player after he fell into the front row of home fans.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took a trip to Norway this week to watch his former club in action.   Solskjaer was Molde boss between 2011 and 2014, then again from 2015 to December last year when he joined United as interim manager. It was originally agreed that he would return to the Molde hot-seat after guiding United to the end of the season but he signed a permanent deal at Old Trafford in March.

Nick Kyrgios has been kicked out of the Italian Open after he threw a chair onto court and verbally abused officials during a furious outburst on Thursday. The volatile Australian was playing his second-round match against Norway's Casper Ruud at the Foro Italico and had levelled the clash at one set all after losing the opener. But, after being given a game penalty to trail 2-1, reportedly for swearing, Kyrgios hurled a chair onto the court, packed up his bag and walked off the court, with the umpire awarding the match to Ruud.

Maynor Figueroa broke down in tears on the pitch after being informed that his father had died during a game. Figueroa, who plays for Houston Dynamo, was consoled by his team-mates after the 1-1 draw with Portland Timbers, as reported by The Sun.  The former Wigan defender was told after the game that his father, Rafael, had died following an illness.

More than 300 people attended the fundraising event at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London on Thursday evening. Tennis ace Sir Andy Murray said he wished his two young daughters had been old enough to see him receive his knighthood from the Prince of Wales today. Sir Andy was knighted by Prince Charles during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace following a glittering tennis career that has seen him win three Grand Slam titles. He issued a brief statement about the knighthood, saying: 'I'd have liked to [have brought] my kids but I think they're a bit young. I'll show them the medal when I get home.' Sir Andy and wife Kim are the proud parents of three-year-old Sophia Olivia and 18-month-old Edie. Andy's proud mother Judy Murray later posted a mocked-up photograph to Twitter in which her son appeared as King Arthur pulling a tennis racquet from the stone (inset).
