Game Of Thrones fan theory claims Jamie Lannister SURVIVED Daenerys Targaryen's siege of King's Landing and will return in show's final episode

  • WARNING: This article contains spoilers for season eight episode five

A Game Of Thrones fan theory has claimed that Jamie Lannister is alive, and survived Daenerys Targaryen's bloody siege of King's Landing in season eight's fifth episode.

The character was last seen in The Bells clutching his twin sister, and main villain, Cersei in his arms as the walls of the Red Keep cellar fell on top them.

But one viewer is convinced the Kingslayer manages to get out of the ruins, and will make a surprise return in the show's final episode.

According to LadBible, a Tumblr user named WeedsAreFlowersToo was suspicious that none of the cast members have paid tribute to actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldeau, even though they had posted about Lena Headey's departure.

This appears to only be half true, as Nikolaj's co-stars did post snaps with the actor in character after the episode's release, but simply failed to reference Jamie's fate.

Lena simply posted a selfie of the pair together while wearing bald caps on their heads, as she joked: 'When @nikolajwilliamcw and I wore jellyfish ... I f*****g love you ya big weirdo.'

But then she went on to say of her character Cersei: 'There she goes. It’s been fun, and bonkers. I loved her. I am grateful for the opportunity.

'Massively thankful for your encouraging and supportive love along the way. And now her watch is ended (I know she’d never make it, Nights watch wouldn’t have her .. but still..)'

While Nikolaj also avoided talking about his character, and instead shared a gushing tribute to the actress where he wrote: 'The best, sweetest most wonderful sister from another mother @iamleanaheadey. That was a fun decade.'

Nikolaj's fellow Danish co-star Pilou Asbæk, who played Euron Greyjoy, joked about his character's clash with Jamie on a beach outside the Red Keep in the intense penultimate episode.

Pilou, whose character met a grisly end in the fight, said: 'Thanks @nikolajwilliamcw Two men enter, One man leaves.... it’s been such a pleasure working with you!!!

'Oh and sorry about last night...didn’t know you were in a hurry.... don’t have that many friends on #gameofthrones and just wanted to hang out on the beach...maybe play the guitar, make a (fire) and chill under the stars while the world was burning around us...kinda romantic if you ask me...but sadly you never do... Just wanna say....it’s been an absolutely blast getting to know you.'

Whereas he said he 'loved working with' Lena in a gushing tribute to her, where he added: 'THANKS for many good hours.... remember when we took this photo after our first shooting day...season 8... a long time...'

But that's not all, as another fan also went on to contact Entertainment Weekly journalist James Hibberd to ask about his series of interviews with the cast members.

Recent interviews released on the publication have been with Lena and Rory McCann, who played The Hound, who both died in the episode, but the article with Nikolaj has yet to be published.

The journalist told the fan that he was 'holding that one for a bit', which could mean that the character has yet to perish on screen, or could simply be a way of EW to stagger their Game Of Thrones content.

Another factor that could work in the favour of the fan theory, is the fact that the cast were spotted filming scenes in Croatia that haven't appeared in the show.

In the scenes shot in February last year, Lena was seen filming around the city that doubles up as King's Landing while Kit Harington was also on set.

The actor was seen in his full Jon Snow costume, and while it was not clear whether he was filming scenes alongside Lena, it is a possibility they did.

Lena wore her character's signature ensemble but in black rather than Lannister red, which could also indicate that her character is in mourning.

However Nikolaj was not seen on set that day and this could mean that it is in fact Cersei and not Jamie who survived the collapse of the Red Keep.

Fans were left feeling frustrated by Jamie and Cersei's storyline in the fifth episode, as the former had abandoned his twin in season seven only to return to her side during Daenerys' siege to try and save her.

Many expected Jamie to kill his sister, fulfilling a prophecy she received as a young girl from the witch Maggy the Frog which claimed she would meet her end at the hands of the Valonqar, which means Little Brother in High Valyrian.

Instead, the pair died in each others arms in the cellars of the Red Keep, after their escape route was blocked and the walls collapsed around them.

One fan complained: 'Best ways to kill Cersei, 1. Jamie kills Cersei, 2. The Night King kills Cersei, 3. Arya kills Cersei, 4. Drogon kills Cersei, 15. Bran wargs into Cersei and commits suicide, 146. She gets Pheumonia and dies, 1672. Gets trampled by rocks.'

Another added: 'I really hate to admit this, but that Jamie/Cersei death was garbage. Cersei deserved worse, and Jamie all but redeemed himself over the whole show just to crawl back to Cersei!? Who was the brother that was prophesied to kill her!'

While one criticised the story, as they said: 'Jaime running back to Cersei tracks for me; she's his addiction. Jaime turning his back the people of king's landing - the people for whom he sacrificed all of his personal good will and saved in robert's rebellion - is complete character assassination.'

Sharing an image of Jamie knighting Brienne of Tarth from episode two, one user added: 'I'm just going to pretend this man died at the Battle of Winterfell and his character arc ended right here.'

The show is set to come to a conclusion on Sunday night, opening with Daenerys on the Iron Throne following her brutal destruction of King's Landing.

While it's unclear what is set to happen, characters like Arya, Jon and Tyrion are sure to confront her over her rash actions after witnessing the violence first-hand.

Game of Thrones concludes on HBO in the US, and is screened simultaneously at 2 AM on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK, on Sunday night.
