The man was later treated for injuries to his lower body. While being pulled from the water at around 6pm, the car, which was a hybrid and electric, caught fire. The fire was finally put out around midnight.

Photographer Tanakit Suwanyangyaun, 37, captured this amazing image off the Sri Lankan coast as the Blue Whale emerged from the deep chasing after krill. He said it was 'massive'.

Footage showed the elephant prodding and trying to drag its newborn in Ajnashuli, India when it fell ill and was unable to get up. It later charged and killed Shailen Mahato, 27.

US paratroopers put on a spectacular display preparing for D-Day anniversary

US paratroopers have been practicing ahead of the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day landings by jumping from a C-130 sporting the black and white stripped markings used by allied aircraft on June 6, 1944. Some 24,000 airborne troops landed across Normandy shortly after midnight, passing over the main invasion force as it steamed towards the beach. The paratroopers were ordered to hold strategic locations, disrupt communications and prevent reinforcements from arriving at the beaches while the main invasion force came ashore.
