Liar series two: Joanne Froggatt gets stuck into filming as her character Laura goes kayaking and returns to Andrew’s murder scene

Filming for Liar's hotly-anticipated return is underway, with scenes picking up where the nail-biting season one finale ended with Andrew Earlham's shock death.

And leading actress Joanne Froggatt, 38, appeared in good spirits as her character Laura Nielson returned to the scene of Andrew's death on set in Tollesbury, Essex, on Tuesday.

The Downton Abbey star, 38, was pictured wearing a black wetsuit with a red life-jacket and black water boots.

Joanne's character will no doubt be returning to her kayaking after her watersports activity was heavily featured in the first series.

However, her kayak hobby could make things a bit awkward in the second series after her rapist Andrew's murdered body was found in the marshes nearby while a police investigation is in full swing to find out who the culprit is.

Despite the harrowing scenes, Joanne appeared in good spirits as she put on a giddy display in between filming and paid attention to a pet dog sat on a bench nearby.

It also looked as though a stunt double could be used for the kayaking scenes as a woman who looked similar to Joanne with the same hairdo and costume was spotted talking to her.

Filming for series two commenced in March 2019, with the ITV show expected back on screens in the Autumn.

The first season watched Laura's life gradually unravel after she enjoyed a drunken date with widower Andrew, only to wake up the next morning believing she had been raped.

She accused Andrew of being responsible, with viewers left wondering which of them was telling the truth.

As it was revealed that Andrew had indeed sexually assaulted 19 women, things took a turn when he found dead in the marshes in the final moments of the series.

Although his character met a grizzly end, actor Ioan Gruffudd returns to the role, appearing in flashback sequences that chronicle the event's leading up to Andrew's death.

The first season of Liar was ITV’s highest rated new drama of 2017, 9.1m viewers tuned into the season 1 finale, with the show granted an immediate recommission.
