'We’d kissed at the bar at 4 a.m., just as the place was closing, and I’d asked her to come home with me,' he wrote. 'She’d smiled and said no, she wouldn’t go home with me after just meeting me, but she would happily go on a date if I called her and asked her out.'

Moby — who's real name is Richard Melville Hall — called Lana the next day and they chatted for 30 minutes before setting up a time to get together.

'She was beautiful, smart, and charming; making plans to meet up with her was both what I wanted to do and what my new therapist had told me to do,' he wrote of the then 21-year-old singer.

They made their way back to his newly renovated, five-floor penthouse in the El Dorado building on Central Park West after the night out.

'I sat next to her on the piano bench and started kissing her,' he wrote. 'She kissed me back — but then stopped. "What’s wrong?" I asked. "I like you. But I hear you do this with a lot of people." I wanted to lie, to tell her that I didn’t, that I was chaste, sane, and ethical.'

Moby 'said nothing' and instead walked her down to the lobby and 'kissed her good night' by the elevators.

'This wasn’t how I imagined the night ending,' he wrote. 'I’d assumed that we would end up christening my new apartment with vodka and sex. But to my surprise, this was almost nicer.'

He also reminisced about his flings with A-list actresses Natalie Portman and Christina Ricci in his new autobiography, which details his rise to fame and subsequent fall.

At his lowest point, he was begging fans for drugs and attempted suicide in 2008.

The New Yorker said he enrolled himself in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings in 2008 after relying on alcohol to cure his 'debilitating panic attacks', and says the group sessions helped him get on the right path.

Then It Felt Apart is set for release on May 2.
