Speed camera tolerances in France are HALF what they are in Britain

While most speed camera tolerances in the UK allow for drivers to exceed limits by 10% plus 2mph, in France a speed camera is triggered when a driver is 5% over the restriction. The AA estimates that 770,000 Britons risk being caught out by the end of 2019 - and new rules mean that French authorities can easily pursue drivers for fines.

A sharp rise in interest combined with new models arriving on the market was behind solely battery-powered electric car sales rising, however, they still only make up 1.4% of the total UK market.

Astonishing footage obtained by MailOnline (main picture) shows two cars speeding along a street near Sloane Square just moments before the crash. The Audi Q7 chases after a Porsche but loses control and slams into a row of parked cars, flipping over at high speed and cartwheeling down the road. One resident of the street has revealed her £200,000 blue McLaren, £40,000 Porsche Cayenne and navy blue £200,000 Bentley Bentayga have been destroyed. She said: 'It's very dangerous. Originally when we bought this house but now it's just crippled with crime and issues with cars racing around this time of the year. We've lived here for two years and have had to deal with this for a while'. Summer Haider rushed outside her home and said: 'I really thought there had been some sort of explosion, like a helicopter coming down'. She added: 'I went over to the car and the driver got out. He started to say he was being chased. Having seen some CCTV we now know that was a lie'.

Which UK postcodes have most drivers over 90? Birmingham tops the list

Following the Duke of Edinburgh's shunt outside the Royal's Sandringham home earlier this year at the ripe age of 97, there have been growing concerns for the number of elderly motorists who retain driving licences in Britain. Key worries are failing eyesight, slower reaction times and conditions such as dementia, with police and safety campaigners fearing that many pensioners are simply not fit to be behind the wheel. Despite this, DVLA records show that there are 113,500 licence holders in the UK over 90 - and more than 300 are over a century old. Birmingham came out on top with 2,869 drivers who exceed 90 years - and of these eight were over 100. These motorists account for just 0.2% of the 1.4m licence holders in the area. Find out how many people over nine decades old are still on the road in your postcode.

Young drivers will be banned from the roads at night

The Department for Transport is considering introducing a 'graduated licence' system that would place restrictions on rookie drivers. Young motorists would be placed under an overnight curfew or forced to drive under supervision during darkness hours. The Government will also consider restricting the number of young passengers that drivers can carry, limiting car engine sizes and implementing a minimum 'learning period' that drivers must observe before taking a test. The limits would likely last for between six months and two years, The Times reported, and are reportedly backed by both the AA and RAC Foundation.
