While most speed camera tolerances in the UK allow for drivers to exceed limits by 10% plus 2mph, in France a speed camera is triggered when a driver is 5% over the restriction. The AA estimates that 770,000 Britons risk being caught out by the end of 2019 - and new rules mean that French authorities can easily pursue drivers for fines.

£1MILLION supercar wipe-out: Terrifying moment 'boy racer' wrecks luxury vehicles including one woman's McLaren, Porsche AND Bentley
EXCLUSIVE: The driver of an Audi Q7 4x4 lost control of his vehicle and ploughed into a row of 11 luxury supercars in Moore Street, Chelsea (right today) - but has not yet been arrested because of his injuries. Astonishing footage obtained by MailOnline (main picture) shows two cars speeding along a street near Sloane Square just moments before the crash. The Audi Q7 chases after a Porsche but loses control and slams into a row of parked cars, flipping over at high speed and cartwheeling down the road. One resident of the street has revealed her £200,000 blue McLaren, £40,000 Porsche Cayenne and navy blue £200,000 Bentley Bentayga have been destroyed. She said: 'It's very dangerous. Originally when we bought this house but now it's just crippled with crime and issues with cars racing around this time of the year. We've lived here for two years and have had to deal with this for a while'. Summer Haider rushed outside her home and said: 'I really thought there had been some sort of explosion, like a helicopter coming down'. She added: 'I went over to the car and the driver got out. He started to say he was being chased. Having seen some CCTV we now know that was a lie'.
Is this the flying car of the future? Prototype hovers ten feet above the ground for one minute in unveiling by Japanese electronics giant NEC
Japanese electronics maker NEC has unveiled its 'flying car' - a large drone-like machine with four propellers which could be available by the 2030s. The test flight saw it hover steadily for about a minute ten feet above the ground inside a gigantic cage designed to protect onlookers watching at an NEC facility in a Tokyo suburb. The preparations such as the repeated checks on the machine and warnings to reporters to wear helmets took up more time than the two brief demonstrations.
There are more than 100,000 drivers in Britain over 90 - we reveal the postcodes with highest numbers of elderly motorists
Following the Duke of Edinburgh's shunt outside the Royal's Sandringham home earlier this year at the ripe age of 97, there have been growing concerns for the number of elderly motorists who retain driving licences in Britain. Key worries are failing eyesight, slower reaction times and conditions such as dementia, with police and safety campaigners fearing that many pensioners are simply not fit to be behind the wheel. Despite this, DVLA records show that there are 113,500 licence holders in the UK over 90 - and more than 300 are over a century old. Birmingham came out on top with 2,869 drivers who exceed 90 years - and of these eight were over 100. These motorists account for just 0.2% of the 1.4m licence holders in the area. Find out how many people over nine decades old are still on the road in your postcode.
Motorists have voted a motorway service station overlooking the Severn Bridge as the WORST in the country - and the M6 Toll's Norton Canes is the best to visit
The Severn View site on the M48 in Gloucestershire (pictured left) run by Moto had a satisfaction rating of 72 per cent in a poll. The second lowest ranked was Burtonwood on the M62 in Cheshire followed by Cullompton on the M5 in Devon and Frankley southbound on the M5 in Worcestershire. The survey by watchdog Transport Focus ranked Norton Canes on the M6 Toll in Staffordshire (inset left) as the best services for the second year running with approval rates of 99 per cent. Nearly 12,000 customers were asked about subjects such as hygiene, food and value for money at 111 services in England between February and April. Rankings for all 111 services have been revealed.
Shocking moment car flips over and spins on roof then crashes into ditch (as radio plays 'I'm spinning around in circles' by Calum Scott)
Dash cam footage shows the black car coming towards an oncoming vehicle in Warlingham, Surrey, before smashing into trees at the side of the road. The impact sends it hurtling towards the other car, spinning several times before narrowly dodging a second crash and falling into a ditch on the other side. The driver of the other car says he was four seconds away from being hit - while the words 'I'm spinning around in circles' from the Calum Scott song plays on the stereo.
Barn find of the year? Completely original 1969 Lamborghini Miura is expected to sell for £1MILLION at a London auction in October
Described as a 'time capsule' example of the legendary Lambo, it has been preserved in unrestored condition boasting the original paint, trim and mechanical parts it left the factory with. With just two owners from new, it has been kept in a barn for the last four years. The odometer reads just 29,020 kilometres - which is a mere 18,032 miles. On average, that works out at the car being driven 360 miles each of the 50 years since it was made. RM Sotheby's says it should fetch between £800,000 and £1million when it goes under the hammer.
Speed limiters would cut road deaths by 20% to spark first major decline in casualty rates for a decade - and experts say they are cheap and easy to install
A new report hints that the installation of Intelligent Speed Assistance technology would be fairly straightforward, with experts claiming they are simple and cheap for car makers to fit. That's because many modern cars on sale today already have the hardware fitted for systems such as Lane Assistance and cameras that can read traffic signs.
Pick-up trucks are more popular than ever in Britain - here are the best and worst models you can buy in 2019
Pick up trucks are synonymous with the US and the Australian outback, but more Britons buy them today than any other time on record. Here's a countdown from worst to best models on sale in the UK right now. This includes (clockwise from top left) the Ssangyong Musso, Ford Ranger, Mercedes-Benz X-Class and VW Amarok.
Supercar-market sweep: Once in a lifetime job pays £30,000 a-year (plus commission) to hunt abandoned Ferraris and Lamborghinis in Dubai
A UK firm is recruiting for a 'supercar scout' in Dubai - someone who can track down abandoned luxury vehicles as one of the most incredible full-time positions we've ever seen advertised. North London company HushHush says it will pay one lucky candidate a £30k basic salary plus commission for every deserted supercar that's acquired and sold, on top of full living and travel expenses - and applications are currently open.
The cars most likely to fail an MOT: Is yours among the motors with the worst record for flunking at the first attempt?
MOT results sourced from the Driver and Vehicle Standard Agency (DVSA) for 2017 has been used to list the 10 models in each vehicle category - from city cars to large SUVs - that had the highest and lowest pass rates. Among the models topping their classes are the (clockwise from top left) Vauxhall Tigra, Fiat Stilo, Jeep Patriot and Renault Clio.
Ford tries to convince petrol heads to buy its electric pick-up truck by towing a train weighing 500 TONS
Experts from the Michigan-based motoring firm hooked up the green machine to 10 double decker railway carriages containing 42 of the firm's F-150 2019 model pickups. The truck managed to pull a total combined weight of 1.25 million lbs over a distance of 1,000 feet. The firm previously announced it would be bringing out a hybrid version of its F-150 truck, due to be released in 2020.
The celebration of the best mundane motors: Take a look round the Festival of the Unexceptional - the classic car show for drab heroes of days gone by
The Festival of the Unexceptional celebrates some of the blandest, ugliest and underwhelming vehicles from history that have - for one reason or another - been lovingly kept by owners. Last weekend, thousands of ordinary-car enthusiasts came together at Claydon House in Buckinghamshire to admire a range of models most of us would probably ignore. However, look at the photos from Saturday's event and you're bound to come across something that will jog the memory. Pictured clockwise from top left: Citroen BX Estate, Austin Metro, Rover 200 and Vauxhall Cavalier.
No-Deal Brexit could see supply of new electric cars turn to a 'trickle' as vehicle makers will prioritise EU markets
If Britain leaves the European Union without an agreement, Transport & Environment warned that manufacturers would prioritise other markets as part of efforts to hit strict air pollution targets set for 2021. As a result, deliveries of the latest electric cars to British motorists would slow to a 'trickle' as other nations received the bulk of the newest vehicles with extended ranges and lower prices.
Young drivers will be banned from the roads at night and have the number of passengers they can carry limited under new motoring safety plans
The Department for Transport is considering introducing a 'graduated licence' system that would place restrictions on rookie drivers. Young motorists would be placed under an overnight curfew or forced to drive under supervision during darkness hours. The Government will also consider restricting the number of young passengers that drivers can carry, limiting car engine sizes and implementing a minimum 'learning period' that drivers must observe before taking a test. The limits would likely last for between six months and two years, The Times reported, and are reportedly backed by both the AA and RAC Foundation. The extreme new measures could apply to all new drivers, regardless of age, although other countries where similar rules are in place - such as New Zealand, Sweden and some parts of the United States and Canada - have focused the restrictions on drivers aged 25 and under.
REVEALED: The 10 most common reasons why learners failed their driving test last year
Over 1.6 million learners sat their practical driving test in the last year, with 54% flunking it - according to DVSA data. Poor observation - including not looking properly at junctions or using mirrors correctly before changing direction - were the most common errors made by new motorists. This correlates with accident data on the road, with two in five shunts caused by one of more driver's failure to observe their surroundings sufficiently.

British beauty: Norfolk brand Lotus takes wraps off its new £2MILLION Evija - a 200mph electric hypercar with air tunnels carved straight through it
Government calls for public electric car chargepoints to accept debit and credit card payments by 2020 - and new-build homes to have chargers installed in fresh boost for zero-emission vehicles
All newly-installed rapid chargepoints should allow for one-off card payments by spring 2020, rather than motorists having to pay multiple subscriptions for varying servies, said the Government. Meanwhile, Transport Secretary Chris Grayling also confirmed a public consultation on changing building regulations in England to require all new properties to have an electric vehicle charger installed.
Is this the answer to your electric-car conundrum? The £28k Nobe 100 is fully recyclable, has a 162-mile range and can be parked VERTICALLY to save space
Using what the firm calls a 'gekko' parking rig, it can be kept vertically to save road space or take up less room on your driveway, garden or garage. If you want more range than what's offered as standard then you can purchase a portable 'suitcase' battery that extends driving limits on a full charge to 193 miles.
Value-retaining vehicles: These are the 20 new mainstream cars that will depreciate slowest over three years
In the current market, where around eight in 10 new cars are financed and monthly payments are impacted by the rate of depreciation, its becoming more important than ever to find a model that holds its value well. Exclusive data provided by vehicle valuations experts cap hpi has identified which 20 new mainstream models - not including supercars and low-production exclusive models - retain most of their original price over an average ownership period of three years and 60,000 miles. Cars featuring in the list include (clockwise from top left) the Mercedes-AMG CLA, Toyota CH-R, VW California, Kia Niro, Peugeot 3008 and Maserati Levante.
More than 1,200 drivers prosecuted after fellow motorists post clips to a new database but AA warns 'if we had more cops we wouldn't need dashcam vigilantes'
The national dash cam safety portal was launched last July offering an easy way for motorists to submit incriminating videos of dangerous driving to police forces to use as evidence. In the first 12 months of the database being available, some 4,891 clips were uploaded to the portal, resulting in more than 1,000 convictions that would likely have otherwise gone unpunished. But the AA has warned that encouraging 'dashcam vigilantes' should not be seen as a substitute for having traffic police on patrol.
A third of cars FAILED the updated MOT test in its first year as more than 10million vehicles flunked with 'major' and 'dangerous' defects
Just over 10 million cars failed the MOT test in the year from May 2018. That compares to 7.3 million fails during 2017, before the changes were introduced - an increase of 37%. Experts have previously accounted the rise in MOT test fails to the fact that drivers are reluctant to buy new models and are keeping hold of their older vehicles that are more susceptible to faults.
The electric Bentley of the future that can drive itself but still let you enjoy a spin: British icon reveals its EXP 100 GT vision of a car for 2035
Bentley has long prided itself on making luxury cars that are a thrill to drive, but to celebrate its 100th birthday it has revealed an electric grand tourer that could pilot itself. Bentley unveiled the experimental EXP 100 GT today with astonishing driver and passenger doors that are two metres wide and pivot outwards and upwards like Bentley's flying wing logo, pictured top left and centre with our reporter Ray Massey. The car looks ahead 16 years to the year 2035 and with a predicted range of range of 435 miles, a top speed of 186mph and acceleration from 0 to 60mph in under 2.5 seconds, Bentley describes the electric-powered coupe as a 'fully-autonomous car that can be driven when one wishes to enjoy the thrill of driving.'
The end of the road for Beetlemania: The last ever VW Beetle has rolled off the production line
Mini Electric revealed: Famous brand's first pure-electric cars will be made in the same British factory as the original 60 years ago
The new plug-in Mini Electric accelerates briskly from rest to 62mph in 7.3 seconds and will on to a top speed electronically restricted to 93mph, with a range between 124 and 144 miles. The Mini Electric will be built at the same Oxford factory as its ancestor and the zero-emissions three-door hatchback with go-kart style handling has a starting price of under £25,000 after a £3,500 taxpayer-funded government subsidy.
Bentley goes green: RAY MASSEY gets behind the wheel of the new hybrid Bentayga to test it out
If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to drive a hybrid Bentayga. It's not quite wearing flowers in your hair, as the hippie anthem encouraged, but it's at least slightly greener than the usual gas guzzling luxury Bentley 4x4. I did just that - taking a Bentayga for a drive around some of the most expensive real estate in the USA - and even dropping in on his Facebook's campus headquarters - address 1 Hacker Way. The new hybrid Bentley 4X4 has killed off the earlier diesel version, or rather replaced the ill-fated oil-burner after its exceptionally short lifespan of around two years.
New calls to raise motorway speed limits to 80mph to aid road safety 'because it reduces dangerous overtaking'
The motorway speed limit should be raised, campaigners said last night - after a report found easing restrictions for lorries may have made the roads safer. Almost half of drivers are breaking the 70mph limit, a second report revealed. The two pieces of research have reignited the long-running debate about motorway speeds. AA president Edmund King said: 'Driving at 80pmh at an appropriate distance from the vehicle in front, in a modern car in good weather on a decent motorway is probably safe.
CASH CARS - THE MODELS THAT COULD MAKE YOU MONEY
It's got supercar performance, limo luxury and could be yours for a little over £6,000: Cash Cars on the future classic Jaguar XJR
Buy a car near the bottom of its depreciation curve and while you may find yourself forking out for repairs you won't lose thousands in value. That can spell interesting motoring that costs you less and is the theory behind our Cash Cars series. In this column, Tony Middlehurst reckons Jaguar's supercharged luxe-express might not be the unreliable money-pit you think it is - and a smasher could be yours from about £6,000.
Honda's fast, cheap and reliable sports car from a golden age of engineering: Cash Cars on why the S2000 has future classic potential
The Honda S2000 is a fast and capable roadster from a golden age of old-school engineering. It gives you 0-60mph in six seconds, a 150mph top speed, classic rear-wheel drive, great handling, 50/50 weight distribution and a cool driving environment. Buy a good one now for under £10,000 and it should hold its value and reward you with many miles of high-revving fun, says Tony Middlehurst in our Cash Cars column.

ON THE ROAD: NEW CARS AND TESTS
Lightyears ahead: Dutch firm releases a £134,000 SOLAR car that is claimed to be able to do 12,400 miles a year using energy from the sun
Lightyear One can be charged directly from the sun thanks to the 5 square metres of solar cells on its roof and bonnet. This generates a maximum of 20,000km (12,400m) worth of free energy per year. With Department for Transport calculating that the average motorist covers 7,134 miles annually, it means Britons could drive all-year-round for free - granted the sun comes out for long enough to charge the One's battery. First deliveries of 500 examples will arrive in 2021. Customers can place a £106k deposit today to secure one of the vehicles, which can also boost its battery pack by plugging into conventional electric car chargers and electricity supplies.
Britain has a net zero emissions target for 2050, but what are the best electric cars to buy NOW? Real-world ranges of the latest vehicles revealed
There are some big discrepancies between the 'official' and real-world ranges, and there's a staggering 202-mile differences in the ranges of the best and worst new electric cars you can buy in showrooms today, according to figures from What Car?'s Real Range test. Here are 14 models you can buy in showrooms right now, and how far you can rely on them to travel between charges. The list includes (clockwise from top left) Audi's e-tron, Hyundai's Kona, Nissan's Leaf and Jaguar's I-Pace.

CLASSIC CARS AND AUCTIONS
Hidden machine guns, tyre slashers, a bullet-proof shield, and of course that infamous ejector seat: What the wannabe 007 will get when James Bond's Aston Martin, seen in Goldfinger and Thunderball, is auctioned for £5million
An Aston Martin DB5 fully kitted with machine guns, tyre slashers and a bullet proof shield which was made for promoting Thunderball in 1965 is to go on sale at Sotheby's in California (pictured from top right, clockwise: the boot is packed with gas canisters and the bullet proof screen; replica .30 calibre machine gun barrels appear from the tail lights; the black leather upholstery has been refurbished; the DB5 outside Aston Martin's 'Heritage' building; and inset, Sean Connery posing with the car). Two were used in 1964 during the filming of Goldfinger - one for stunt driving and chase sequences, the other for interior shots and close-ups. Two more, including the one being sold, were commissioned by bosses at the film-makers, Eon Productions, and shipped to the US to promote Thunderball in 1965.
Keep on running! The 10 most reliable used cars with more than 60,000 miles on the clock (and models to avoid)
For those on a tight budget, a new car will be out of the question. However, these models should offer good reliability even when they've been heavily used by a previous owner. The list includes used versions of (from top left) Kia's Cee'd, Ford's Fiesta, Skoda's Octavia, Toyota's RAV4, BMW's 3 Series and Honda's Civic.
