Joanne Froggatt, 38, has been spotted filming her first scenes with former Downton Abbey co-star Amy Nuttall, 36, for Liar Series Two.

The pair appeared to be involved in a heated conversation as they filmed scenes for the new series of the ITV drama, which is set to return this autumn.

Amy is set to appear in the series in a mystery role as the show returns with a Who Done It? after rapist Andrew Earlham was found dead in the marshes.

During the scenes, Amy's character appeared deeply distressed as Joanne's character Laura Nielson tried to comfort her, with the pair appearing to be standing in a boatyard.

Something sinister seemed to be going on, as much of the set was lined with police tape, and a police car could also be seen on the set.

At one point the pair even share an embrace, though it remains to be seen how Amy's character will tie into Andrew's death.

Amy previously appeared on Downton Abbey as housemaid Ethel Parks, opposite Joanne who played Anna Bates throughout the series' six-year run.

The Lancashire-born actress also appeared in Emmerdale from Chloe Atkinson from 2000 to 2005.

Filming for series two of Liar commenced in March 2019, with the ITV show expected back on screens in the Autumn.

The first season watched Laura's life gradually unravel after she enjoyed a drunken date with widower Andrew, only to wake up the next morning believing she had been raped.

She accused Andrew of being responsible, with viewers left wondering which of them was telling the truth.
