Tiffany Haddish and ex-husband William Stewart have trial date set in his defamation suit over the way he came off in her book

A trial date has been set in the ongoing legal scrum between Tiffany Haddish and her ex-husband William Stewart, who claims the comic painted a false portrait of him in her 2017 book The Last Black Unicorn.

The trial between the 39-year-old actress and Stewart, an army veteran, will convene April 20, 2020, The Blast reported Monday, citing court docs.

At the heart of the suit is the chapter in the book titled The Ex-Husband, in which Haddish depicted her ex-husband - who she never specified by name, but has only been married to Stewart - as an abuser and stalker.

Stewart, who was married to Haddish from 2008-2013, filed a $1 million-plus suit in accusing the If Loving You Is Wrong actress of defamation, libel, and slander with the book, which she has denied.

Stewart also named Haddish's co-writer Tucker Max and the book's publisher Simon and Schuster in the suit.

Stewart said that The Uncle Drew star has not sought to settle in the legal dispute, as his attorney had sent multiple communications to her to do so.

He said she has responded with messages such as, 'Be patient your blessings are coming' and 'Start to think positive so positive things can come your way. Because your blessings are waiting on you.'

Stewart relays graphic details of the pair's intimate relations in court docs, saying that Haddish 'regularly' asked him 'to become more aggressive with her during sex, including, among other things, to choke her as a part of their sexual intercourse.'

Stewart also pointed to a 2012 interview The Girls Trip star gave to comedian Dom Irrera in which she said that Stewart 'never beat [her] up ... [but] just choked [her] a little bit.'

Stewart said in court docs, according to the outlet, that he had audio of Haddish 'seeking the guidance of a psychic to help with her erratic and violent tendencies towards Mr. Stewart, not vice versa.'
