Tamron Hall has opened up about the 'terror' she felt after falling pregnant at the age of 47, admitting that she kept her happy news a secret for so long because she was afraid she was going to lose her child.

The former Today show host, who gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Moses, in April, revealed in a new interview that she suffered from several 'medical factors' during her pregnancy that put her and her child at 'high risk'.

'I was terrified I would lose this baby and I would have to go back and tell everyone that now it was bad news, and after this pregnancy had gone so far,' the 48-year-old new mother told People - having posed with her adorable son for the cover of the magazine's newest issue.

'I was high-risk, not just because of my age, but there were other medical factors too.'

Tamron, who gave birth on April 25 to her first child with husband Steven Greener, left her fans and followers stunned when she revealed on March 4 that she was pregnant, while also letting slip that she had quietly wed music executive Greener.

However, the TV host - who is set to debut her own talk show later this year - insisted to People that she was never trying to keep her marriage a secret, she was just trying to 'protect' their relationship and keep it as 'private' as possible.

'This was my deepest, greatest love, and I'd never talked about my personal life on TV,' she said, after revealing that she and Steven had actually known each other for 'many years' before they started dating.

Tamron added that her hesitation to discuss her love life on television was out of respect for her future husband, even when she wasn't sure who that was going to be, explaining that she never wanted that person to have to watch old episodes of any show she was on and see her 'gushing over the last guy'.

'I think today, people mistake privacy for secrecy,' she continued. 'People say he's my "secret husband". But we were going everywhere together; it was just a private thing I needed to protect.'

The new mother went on to speak about her late sister, Renate, a victim of domestic abuse who was murdered in 2004 in a case that has never been solved.

She explained that - as a result of the abuse - she knows what an 'unhealthy, terrible relationship' is like, noting that she never felt anything but happiness with Steven. Tamron also believes that she and her husband were able to enjoy their relationship to the fullest because she was no longer on television while they were dating.

Having turned their long-term friendship into a romance, the couple soon began talking about the possibility of children, and Tamron says she had to be 'very open' with him about her past failed fertility treatments, which she says she first tried when she was in her 30s.

And while Steven was optimistic and supportive when it came to trying again, Tamron admitted that the experience of going back to the clinic at a later stage in life was not particularly uplifting.

Describing walking in to the clinic as being 'smacked with reality', she explained that her second attempt at fertility treatment was all the more difficult because she knew that 'the clock was not on her side'.

She added that there were many 'frustrations' that she had to deal with during her attempt to get pregnant - equating the struggle with her job search at the time, after she left her role at the Today show.

In her interview with People, Tamron also opened up about the months after her departure from NBC, explaining that there were plenty of tears and worries over what would come next for her, both professionally and personally.

However, she revealed that by the third month after she had left Today, she knew that her life 'had to be about something bigger than work'.

It has now been over two years since Hall was last seen on daytime television, where she was host of the then-surging third hour of Today with Al Roker.

Tamron and Al Roker were comfortably in first place and delivering solid ratings for Today when the decision was made to move them out and bring Megyn Kelly in as host of the third hour.

That move came just as Tamron's contract was up, and she ultimately decided not to resign with NBC News and instead walked out.

However Tamron says she has 'no ill will toward Megyn' who has since left the show under a cloud of controversy.

Still, Tamron's departure was incredibly shocking, given that she was widely known as one of the hardest working personalities on the network, and on some days filled in for both Savannah Guthrie on Today and Lester Holt on NBC Nightly News while also anchoring the third hour of Today.

On one day in December 2016, she filled in for both Savannah and Lester while also hosting MSNBC Live and doing her third hour duties.

She also hosted Deadline: Crime on Investigation Discovery and Dateline Extra on MSNBC, as well as lending her on-air talents to NBC's coverage of the Westminster Dog Show.

Al anchored the third hour with Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dryer in the wake of Tamron's departure, which also proved to be a winning combination.

Unlike Tamron, however, the meteorologist already had a steady gig on Today when Al learned the news about Megyn's arrival, appearing on the program's first two hours.

The third hour had topped its timeslot for seven straight weeks when the news was delivered to Tamron and Al that Megyn would be taking over for them, and making a whole lot more money.

DailyMail.com revealed soon after that Megyn had signed to a three-year contract valued at $69 million, close to 20 times what her predecessor Tamron was paid and double the combined salary of Tamron and Al.

This sizable investment resulted in a show with record low numbers for the network and a host who eventually got the boot following her defense of black face.

Since Tamron left the Today show in 2017, she has been in talks with Disney-ABC to produce her own syndicated daytime talk show, which she will host.

It was announced in March by Disney that the show will officially debut in September of this year after months of developing.

The addition of her son and recent wedding will keep the new mom busy as she prepares to film the first season of her new show.

Tamron has kept her love life very much under wraps, preferring to keep details about her romances as private as possible.

However, In February 2017, around the same time that she was making her rather abrupt exit from Today, the TV host revealed during an interview with Steve Harvey that she was dating someone who worked in 'entertainment', however gave away few other details as to his identity.

She did admit that living life in the public eye has made it difficult for her to date, although noted that the toll has actually been more difficult for the men.

'You know, I feel it’s tougher for the guys, because if I break up with them, then they can go on and be forced to watch me on TV every day,' she joked. 'I don’t see them.'

It is not known whether the man she referred to back in 2017 is her now-husband, but she is understood to have tied the knot with Steven.

Baby fever could be in the air for all current and former Today show anchors as both Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager also revealed their own growing family news in the last week.

Hoda, 54, announced through a phone call with her Today colleagues that she adopted another daughter into her family. Hope Catherine joined Hoda's family earlier in April to become the second girl the anchor has adopted.

'In your life you think that maybe you've gotten what you deserve, but man I'm so happy she's here,' Hoda told the Today show when announcing the adoption.

Then on Monday morning, 37-year-old Jenna announced she was 'very pregnant' with her third child.

She is having a boy with her husband, Henry Hager, 40. The couple already has two daughters together.
