The Oscar winner continues to appear on the big screen, most recently starring in 2018 film, King of Thieves.

The popular crime film was based on the true story of a group of retired crooks who pulled off a huge jewellery heist in London's Hatton Garden jewellery district.

Directed by James Marsh, the film featured an incredible cast including Sir Michael , Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon, Charlie Cox, Jim Broadbent, Paul Whitehouse and Ray Winstone.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, film distributors told Cannes Film Festival that Michael is set to take on the role of a 'miserable author' in upcoming film Best Sellers, with production set to commence this July in Canada.

'Best Sellers follows an ambitious young editor who goes on a wild book tour with a miserable, sharp-witted, has-been author (Caine) who just wants to live out his days in peace with a bottle of scotch, a cigar and his orange tabby cat'.

They reported that Mark Damon from Foresight Unlimited told media at Cannes: 'Caine weaves a character that is hilarious in its rage, yet so touching in its vulnerability'.
