The Bachelorette: Hannah Brown struggles with emotions as three suitors eliminated from ABC show
Hannah Brown struggled to control her emotions during Monday's episode of The Bachelorette as three suitors were eliminated from the ABC show.
Two guys pulled out all the stops early to win Hannah's heart, but alienated their fellow contestants in the process.
Luke P., the 24-year-old import/export manager who won the first impression rose last episode, remained unwavering about his interest in her.
Pageant time: Hannah Brown shouted during a Mr. Right Beauty Pageant on Monday's episode of The Bachelorette on ABC
'I can definitely see myself falling in love with Hannah—getting married, having a family with her,' the Gainesville, Georgia, resident announced. 'I'm already seeing this come to life in my mind.'
Software sales exec Cam, 30, who'd also earned a rose from Hannah, 24, in the pre-show special After The Final Rose, was equally keen.
'I'm more motivated than ever to go and create time with Hannah,' said the Austin, Texas, contestant as he played a lonely harmonica and contemplated her dates with other men.
As the episode opened, eight of the men went on the season's first group date, competing in the 'Mr. Right Beauty Pageant' at Los Angeles' Belasco Theater.
Roller derby: The 24-year-old former beauty queen also oversaw a roller derby competition
Coached by 'drag superstars' Alaska Thunderf*** and Alyssa Edwards from RuPaul's Drag Race and Miss J, the runway expert and America's Next Top Model alum, the contestants—Dylan, Grant, Jed, John Paul Jones, Jonathan, Luke P., Luke S., and Mike—put their best feet forward.
'I could care less how talented they are,' admitted Hannah, who knows pageants well, having previously served as Miss Alabama USA 2018. 'It's more about personality and showing up.'
As the crowd full of women cheered and whooped, the men strutted their stuff in Speedos for the swimsuit portion of the show, before turning to their talents for the next part.
Swimsuit portion: Hannah got a good look at her suitors as they wore Speedos during the swimsuit portion
Good times: The Miss Alabama USA 2018 winner reacted as the guys strutted by in Speedos
'I don't think I've ever worn a Speedo in front of a girl I was trying to date before, ever,' said tech entrepreneur Dylan, 24. 'But you know, I am willing to do anything for her.'
'Hannah is ingenious when it comes to having fun, and I'm right there with her,' said server Jonathan, 27, who threw off his robe with a flourish and smacked himself on the butt.
Luke Parker's chiseled arms, chest and abs made the crowd gasp and Miss J doused him with water.
Works out: Luke Parker showed his chiseled body during the swimsuit portion
'Luke has the body of a Greek god, my gosh—that guy just looks amazing,' marveled John Paul Jones, 24.
During the talent portion, the other men tried their best—playing the trumpet, tap dancing, riding a unicycle and even wearing high heels.
Jed, 25, a singer-songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee performed an original tune designed to win Hannah's heart.
Love sng: Jed performed an original song for Hannah during the talent portion
'Let me tell you a little something about my lady/ The other guys want her but I think that they are crazy/ She keeps callin' me in with that smile, with that smile/ I think that I must try to stay a while…/ and by the end of the night she may be mine/ I'll be your Mr. Right, girl…'
'Oh damn,' said Grant, 30, an unemployed contestant from San Clemente, California.
But it was all over when Luke P. stepped up to the plate, reading a letter to his love.
Love letter: Luke Parker grabbed a mic and delivered a love letter to Hannah
'Hannah, I know that the Mr. Right for you is a man that's gonna love you fiercely,' he said. 'I've already given you a piece of my heart, but I hope in the future I can give you all of it.'
'I can't believe I'm saying this right now,' he added. 'This is pretty crazy because it's so soon, but I can't hide it. I'm genuinely starting to fall in love with you.'
He then kissed Hannah, driving Alyssa and Miss J. crazy—and winning the crown.
Pretty crazy: The import/export manager told Hannah that he was 'genuinely starting to fall in love' with her
'I am Mr. Right, and that feels really good,' said Luke P., holding his winning bouquet.
The men were less thrilled.
'Dude, I'm all about love at first sight, but there's so much that you have to know about someone to be actually in love with them,' said one contestant.
The winner: Luke P was crowned as Mister Right
'I wanted to knock the mic out of his hands,' confessed Jonathan.
After the show, Luke P. stole Hannah away for a moment to ask her how she felt.
'Thinking about it, I was like, ''Oh my God… I've not known this man for 48 hours'',' Hannah admitted. 'I guess my question is: ''It's so fast. How do you know?'''
Good question: Hannah afterward asked Luke how he knew so quickly that he was falling in love
'I've never felt a connection like this my whole entire life,' Luke P. replied. 'My feelings are growing so fast. I am starting to fall in love with you. I am.'
'I asked for bold, and you're bold,' Hannah responded, grinning.
In a confessional, she said he played right to her type.
Her type: The Alabama native admitted that Luke was playing right to her type
'Luke P. told me he was starting to fall in love with me, and I believe him,' Hannah said. 'I am the girl that zones in on a guy and I'm like, ''That's my guy.'' There's such a part of me that wants to be like: ''Him. It's him.'' Because he's saying everything my heart needs him to say. Everything.'
His peers gave him a hard time.
'I like Hannah just as much as you do, and I don't want her emotions to be rattled just because of something that may or may not be factual,' said portfolio manager Mike, 31, who called Luke P. a 'dog.'
Special guest: Miss J, the runway expert and America's Next Top Model alum, helped Hannah out with the Mister Right Beauty Pageant
'You've had less than two hours with her, and in the history of man I've never heard anyone say, I think I'm starting to fall in love with you [that fast].'
'I'm just letting you guys know it's in my personality that if I want something, I'm going to go and get it, no matter what it takes,' Luke P. warned.
Hannah was also charmed by Jed, to whom she gave a kiss—and the group date rose.
Date rose: Hannah and Jed kissed after he won the group date rose
She said she was 'really feeling Jed all day'—and that he 'calms me,' while Luke P 'takes my breath a little bit.'
'I didn't win the Mr. Right pageant, but I think I won the night,' Jed mused.
Next up was the one-on-one date, the card for which read: 'Falling in love can be messy.'
Big night: Jed said he felt as though he won the night even though he didn't win the Mister Right pageant
Hannah and Tyler G., a 28-year-old psychology graduate student, rode ATVs through the mud.
'Tyler is a stud. Dark hair, blue eyes. He looks like a Tim Tebow, but hotter,' Hannah said.
They drank wine in the grass, then reconnected at a candlelight dinner on a hotel rooftop.
Date time: Hannah went on her first one-on-one date with Tyler
Helicopter ride: A helicopter picked up Hannah and Tyler for their date
Getting dirty: Hannah and Tyler after getting dirty riding ATVs, kicked back in the grass
'It's really cheesy, but it's really true at the same time: This is how fairy tales start,' Tyler G. said.
The second group date found 10 men competing against one another in roller derby, coached by members of the LA Derby Dolls.
As host Chris Harrison and actor Fred Willard watched, the men—Connor J., Daron, Devin, Dustin, Garrett, Joey, Kevin, Matteo, Peter and Tyler C.—divided into two teams and vied to knock one another out.
Fairy tale: Tyler said their date was how 'fairy tales start'
'I'm the only person here who has any past roller-blading experience and they are all looking like Bambi,' said IT consultant Darrin, 25, as the men fell repeatedly to the strains of the Blue Danube Waltz.
Real-estate broker Dustin, 30, injured his ankle. At the after-party, however, his shy, kind demeanor won him a kiss from Hannah—and the group-date rose.
Then Cam—who had not been invited—showed up.
Derby girls: The LA Derby Dolls joined Hannah to coach the guys in a roller derby contest
Dudes derby: Chris Harrison and actor Fred Willard provided commentary on the derby
Man down: Dustin went down and was comforted by Hannah
'It's a race for Hannah's heart,' he said, interrupting Devin's date. 'Some guys are probably going to be upset, but I can only be true to me, I can only be Cam, I always say, ''ABC: Always Be Cam''—and this is a very ''Cam'' thing to do.'
Hannah was stunned.
'I was just really excited to come see you,' he equivocated.
Kissing session: Hannah and Dustin kissed after the roller derby competition
'When I'm sitting here thinking about the inevitability of you creating other bonds and relationships—I'm trying not to get over Hannah-lytical—to over-Hannah-lyze things…' he rambled on.
Shockingly, the two kissed.
'If I don't have time with her, Cam's gonna have a real problem when he sees me,' said general contractor Tyler C., 26.
Barging in: Cam barged in on the group date and brought Hannah flowers
Kiss reward: Hannah rewarded Cam for his bold action with a kissing session
'I did what I had to do,' Cam told the camera as Tyler C. walked up, angry, behind him—the first of three suitors to approach him that way.
'She laid down her expectations. She doesn't want a passive man,' offered Cam.
Back at the house, Hannah entered the post-date cocktail party in tears.
Not cool: Cam was telling the camera how he did what he had to do as angry contestants walked up behind him
'I think about you guys—I just get overwhelmed by emotions—just how lucky I am,' she noted. 'It's also scary, and it's hard to make decisions when I don't know all you that well. I know that love can be messy, love can be something you just have to roll with, but I wanna find a Mr. Right in all this. So cheers to an amazing night ahead, just to have real moments together.'
She enjoyed herself with the men, kissing several of them and even screaming at the top of her lungs with one of them, to release tension.
Then Cam resurfaced while behavioral health specialist Kevin, 27, was having his one-on-one time with her.
Getting emotional: Hannah struggled with her emotions before the cocktail party started
'I'm the type of guy that when I want something—I go all in,' Cam said, guiding all three of them to sit in the middle of a candlelight heart he had decorated with rose petals.
He offered Hannah chicken nuggets, then pulled out a ring box.
'Will you accept this honey mustard?' he asked.
He's back: Cam also interrupted Hannah and Kevin while they were alone together
Fast food: Hannah was brought chicken nuggets by Cam
'What the heck?' Kevin wondered. 'It's kind of insane.'
He, too, approached Cam.
'I just wanted to address you really quick… I think you're just coming in at a really weird angle with trying to impose your will,' Kevin said.
Really quick: Kevin approached Cam later and said he was coming in 'at a really weird angle'
'I think what you did with me tonight was honestly ridiculous as well, and with the whole chicken nuggets thing, I think you can just go f*** yourself dude,' he said, throwing nuggets at Cam.
Hannah relaxed when Luke P. gave her a massage and it turned into a passionate kissing session.
'I'm really excited about Luke P.,' she confessed. 'I get excited when I'm gonna see him. It's thrilling… He's so hot. It's easy to get caught up in what this is. It's like, ''Can we just skip the main course and go to the dessert?'' Luke P. is the dessert.'
Chicken nuggets: The floor was littered with chicken nuggets after Tyler threw some at Cam
Jed caught them together, to her horror.
'You know what I've noticed?' he said, breaking the tension when she went to talk to him. 'There are a lot of dudes in here that are after you. Isn't that weird?'
'I should have walked back in with my pants off,' he added.
Shirt off: Hannah was caught with a shirtless Luke P by Jed
Waiting game: Jed excused himself after walking in on Hannah and shirtless Luke
'Yes! I would have died,' said Hannah.
At the rose ceremony, Connor J., Matthew and Daron were eliminated.
Cam raised a glass of champagne.
Astute observation: The moment was made lighter when Jed quipped that he noticed there were 'a lot of dudes' after Hannah
'To my future best friend, Ms. Hannah Ayala,' he said.
'Ayala?' Hannah asked.
'That's my last name,' he replied.
Rose ceremony: Chris Harrison came out during the rose ceremony
As Hannah sat in her final confessional, Luke P. interrupted it to chat and make out with her.
'Why don't you just sit in my lap?' he asked, when she looked for somewhere to hide from the cameras, before picking her up and kissing her.
Previews of next week's episode showed Hannah saying of Luke, 'I need him to slow his roll'—and hearing that Cam may have made up a story to earn a pity rose.
Final confessional: Hannah was interrupted during her post-rose ceremony confessional by Luke
In a coda to the show, one hopeful volunteered to eat a bug for Hannah—something former Bachelor Colton Underwood, had failed to do.
Hannah had him eat every one of the bugs on his plate.
The Bachelorette will return next Monday on ABC.
For real: Luke assured Hannah that he was being 100 percent real with her
