He recently revealed he found it 'terrifying' to follow in Robin Williams' shoes as Genie in Aladdin.

And Will Smith talked about facing his fears when talking to Ellen DeGeneres on Tuesday, as the actor recalled going skydiving on his 50th birthday.

'What I've discovered is how cancerous fear can be in experiencing a life," said the Bad Boys star during his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The interview began with Ellen pressing the 50-year-old on stories she'd read about him forcing his wife of 22 years to jump out of a plane with him.

However Will insisted that Jada had offered to do 'anything' he wanted for his birthday.

But when he told the Girls Trip actress he wanted her to go skydiving, she was incredulous.

'How is that what you want for your birthday?' he recalled Jada asking.

When Ellen asked if Pinkett Smith 'liked' the experience, Will replied: 'She didn't'.

However the Independence Day actor got more out of it - including another valuable life lesson.

'Part of what I've been doing in my fiftieth year, I've been trying to experience all the things I've never let myself experience before.'

'You can't be happy if you're scared'.

Will had previously spoken of his trepidation about taking on the role, in an interview with Australian program The Project

'It was terrifying to even think about jumping into the shoes that Robin Williams created' he said.

'He just smashed it, he revolutionised what you could do with animation.'
