The Voice: Maelyn Jarmon wins season 16 for new coach John Legend during star-studded finale on NBC
Maelyn Jarmon won season 16 of The Voice on Tuesday during a star-studded two-hour finale on NBC that featured performances by top entertainers.
The 26-year-old singer from Frisco, Texas joyously kissed her boyfriend, musician Johnny Murrell, of whom she had spoken often throughout the competition.
'I had no expectations coming into this, so to be standing here, I owe it to everyone who voted and streamed my songs,' said Maelyn smiling in a blue dress.

'I do this for you. I am so grateful, and I am grateful to John for believing in me and being the best coach possible.'
Her coach, John Legend, 40, bounced up and down in a pink suit, proud of his first win.

The first time coach beat the odds to triumph over Blake Shelton, 42, a six-time winner who coached the other three finalists.
Runner-up was Gyth Rigdon, 25, a 'small-town boy' from Singer, Lousiana. Dexter Roberts, 27, from Fayette, Alabama, came in third while Andrew Sevener, 22, of Alvarado, Texas, placed fourth.

All of the finalists were gifted a Toyota RAV4 for participating in the competition.
As the crowd waited to hear who won, host Carson Daly, 45, asked Blake if he had any final words.
'Dear God, I don't know what's gonna happen,' the singer said nervously. 'This is stressful.'

John again praised Maelyn.
'You could have chosen any of us to coach you and you chose me,' he pointed out. 'It's been such a wonderful, thrilling experience to work with you.'
Maelyn, who is deaf in her right ear, and at 80 percent capacity in her left, served as an inspiration to viewers throughout the season, becoming known for her otherworldly, soaring vocals.

Her talents were on full display during one of the evening's highlights: a duet with three-time Grammy winner Sarah McLachlan, 51, on the latter's 1998 song Angel.
Surrounded by dry ice, and wearing a pair of flowy dresses that made them seem angelic themselves, the two women looked as if they could float away on the clouds.
Maelyn did not neglect to praise her coach.

'You have been absolute dream to work with,' she told John at the show's close. 'This has gone above and beyond my expectations.'
The other contestants got to live out their dreams onstage, too.
Andrew rocked out with country music legend Travis Tritt to his hit 1992 single T-R-O-U-B-L-E.

'Andrew is just always excited to be here,' said Blake.
Dexter, whom Blake called 'nice' and 'unassuming,' sang 'That's Country, Bro' with Toby Keith.
'It's hard to be around Dexter and not like the guy,' his coach said.

Gyth performed 'Hold My Hand' with the newly reunited Hootie And The Blowfish.
'Gyth just looks like a country star,' admitted Blake, adding 'we might just need to change the guy's name,' as coaches struggled to pronounce it.
The men returned the favor when asked if they had any words for Blake.

'I couldn't be… happier than having you as a coach. You're just an awesome guy,' said Dexter.
'You're an amazing coach, and an amazing musician, and on top of that, an even better human being,' said Andrew.
'When I came on the show, you [were] an idol, an icon—but I now call you a friend,' said Gyth.

The night's celebrity performers also put on an impressive show.
The Jonas Brothers performed their new single Cool against a vacation-themed backdrop, replete with pastel-colored palm trees and women in yellow swimsuits tossing beach balls.
Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco sang their candy-coated hit, Me!, with a giant gold pair of butterfly wings looming over the background.

R&B artist Khalid, who had previously served as an advisor for Team Legend,treated the crowd to a rendition of his hit song Talk.
OneRepublic debuted their new single, Rescue Me, while Halsey performed her single, Nightmare. South Korean pop group BTS had the crowd screaming as they played their hit Boy With Luv.
To the delight of the coaches, past The Voice contestants also showed up to sing Bobby Brown's My Prerogative, Lizzo's Good As Hell and the Stevie Nicks hit Edge Of Seventeen.

Throughout the show, the coaches took their own turn in the spotlight, from an opening skit that saw them voicing the thoughts of their own dogs to an eerily familiar cologne ad.
'What is the essence of a cowboy? The aroma of masculinity?' asked Blake in a black-and-white commercial, looking for all the world like a refugee from a CKOne or Dior Homme advertisement. 'Manuré: The scent of the open range. Fertilize your senses.'
John did a bit about being blocked by other coaches in the initial audition rounds, singing 'Blocked Around the Clock' as he detailed other ways he had been blocked during the show—when throwing a ball, making a phone call, and securing a parking space.
In her skit, Kelly Clarkson, 37, made fun of the fact that she was the only female coach on the show.
