Royal fans have been sharing photos from Queen Letizia and King Felipe of Spain's wedding as the couple celebrate their 15th anniversary today. 

Felipe, then Crown Prince and heir to the throne, married former journalist Letizia Ortiz in a lavish ceremony at Madrid's Almudena Cathedral in May 2004. 

As the couple mark the occasion privately, supporters have been joining in the festivities by posting photos from the wedding day, saying the royals are getting better with age'.

The couple had met at a dinner party hosted by a mutual friend and had been dating secretly for a year before announcing their plans to wed. 

Letizia, who divorced from her first husband in 1999, was already well-known to the Spanish public thanks to her role as a news anchor on national TV. 

During her journalism career she reported on international news events including reporting from New York in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
