In a New York Times interview, she admitted the inspiration for her new luxury fashion line was easy to find.

The songstress was 'hands-on' in the creative process and said she used herself 'as the muse' when cultivating the collection, which is set to be released online beginning May 29.

'It's sweatpants with pearls, or a masculine denim jacket with a corset,' she said. 'I feel like we live in a world where people are embracing every bit of who they are.'

Rihanna — who's real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty — went on: 'I've been slowly evolving throughout the fashion world.

'First wearing it, buying it, being recognised for my style and then collaborating with brands. I never just wanted to put my name on something and sell my license. I'm very hands-on, so I wanted to take it slowly and gain respect as a designer.

'It just changed how I dress in terms of my proportions. You wear what looks good on you and that's it.

'I'm thick and curvy right now, and so if I can't wear my own stuff then, I mean, that's not gonna work, right?

'And my size is not the biggest size. It's actually closer to the smallest size we have: We go up to a (U.S. size 14), We're saying we can meet you at any one drop that we put out.'

It comes after Rihanna casually revealed that she's been living in London for a year, telling The New York Times that she's been 'keeping a little incognito' while staying in the capital and is enjoying the relative anonymity the city brings.

On learning of the move, Brits have gone wild with excitement - with many joining the dots from last week, when the star shared a selfie which had a supermarket bag from Sainsbury's in the backdrop.

'It isn't in the books right now, but I'm not against it,' she said of a possible collaboration with Lady Gaga before admitting 'I don't see it happening' when asked if she would work with her ex Drake.

However, she did confirm the next release will be a 'reggae album' but she doesn't have a title yet.

'So far it’s just been R9, thanks to the Navy. I’m about to call it that probably, ’cause they have haunted me with this "R9, R9, when is R9 coming out?" How will I accept another name after that’s been burned into my skull?' Rihanna explained.
