Terrifying moment seven-year-old girl standing on back of pick-up goes up in flames when static from her clothing ignites fuel vapors as her dad fills container at gas station

  • The young girl placed her hands over the large-sized cylinder on the flatbed of a truck while her father filled it up
  • Government official said the fireball was caused by a static spark from the girl's  clothing igniting the gas fumes
  • The father, who was also burned, and the girl were listed in stable condition 

A young girl standing on the back of her dad's pickup at a gas station was seriously burned when static from her clothes ignited gas vapors as he filled a container with fuel.  

The seven-year-old girl's father can be seen holding the gas hose over the large-sized drum while his daughter innocently places her hand over the cover of the canister.

Within a matter of seconds, a short spark ignites a huge fire ball that engulfed the child in flames.

The shocked dad then lets go of the pump hose as the fire quickly spreads to the petroleum dispenser, sending other customers running for safety.

The girl moves to the opposite side of the truck's flatbed as the fire from the fuel cylinder envelops the vehicle.

Her worried dad then races to her aid before the 10-second video is cut short.

A Querétaro government official said the explosion was caused by a static discharge from the little girl's clothing and the fumes from the fuel.

Both father and daughter where transported to a Jalpa de Serra General Hospital where they were treated for their injuries.

The child suffered first and second degree burns. Both were listed in stable condition.
