'When I take my kit off I don't look like Hugh Jackman': Taron Egerton warns fans of what they'll see in naked scenes in new Elton John biopic Rocketman... after revealing the film's sex scenes are 'pretty explicit'

He's scored the role of a lifetime in the upcoming Elton John biopic, Rocketman.

But its star Taron Egerton, 29, wants to warn fans about some of his more risqué scenes in the film.

Talking at the Sydney premiere on Saturday night, Taron said: In the interests of full disclosure, when I take my kit off [in the film], I don't look like Hugh Jackman,' The Daily Telegraph reported.

The British actor, who plays Elton in various stages of his career, also spoke of his love for Australia while visiting the nation on the world-wide press tour for the film.

'I love how naughty you guys are … This [film] is not some sanitised version,' he said.

Taron recently spoke candidly to British GQ Magazine in April saying the sex scenes filmed for the movie were 'pretty explicit'.

'I mean, that's why I made the film. Those scenes are desperately important when you have an icon of that magnitude, who means so much to one community,' he said.

'[Elton] has been such a standard bearer. And for me, especially as a heterosexual actor, not to push the envelope as far as I can or try to make it a wholehearted celebration of being a gay man would be wrong.'

The film spans the entirety of Elton's career, from when he was a young boy right up to his dark times struggling with bulimia and drug addiction, but despite the films scope, LGBTI+ advocates have still slammed the film for allegedly watering down some of the gay scenes to widen the audience.

But while acknowledging the fact that the biopic was being made from a major studio, Taron refutes the claims the film is watered down, saying his artistic integrity was much more important than box office numbers.

'I don't care how well the film does in Russia. It doesn't matter. It can't matter. What's an extra $25 million at the box office? What are you willing to do for that? Sacrifice sleeping at night because you watered the whole thing down?' he said.

Dexter, who had previously worked with Taron and Hugh Jackman in 2015's Eddie The Eagle, gushed about Taron's performance to the packed audience at Sydney's State Theatre.

'The level of commitment with which he throws himself into the film is astonishing,' Spencer said, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Rocketman, which opens in Australian cinemas on Thursday, is tipped by critics to not only top recent biopic Bohemian Rhapsody at the box office but will also scoop more nods at the Oscars next year.
