The Eurosceptic leader's party surged all over the country, eclipsing his performance as UKIP leader in 2014 to win Wales and the North East of England, including victories in Cardiff and Newcastle which voted Remain in 2016. Declaring victory, Mr Farage (pictured left tonight) said that 'never before in British politics has a new party launched just six weeks ago topped the polls in a national election'. 'There's a huge message here, massive message here - the Labour and Conservative parties could learn a big lesson from tonight - though I don't suppose that they actually will,' he said. As ballot boxes were opened on Sunday, with 73 seats up for grabs in 12 regions, the Liberal Democrats and Greens both recorded strong results as voters voiced their fury at the two major parties - with Labour heading for third overall and the Tories fifth.
Headteacher is fired after she awarded school building projects worth half a MILLION pounds to her husband
Ruth Ejvet allegedly allowed a £145,000 contract to go through without considering other bids despite knowing it was against government guidelines. The three-phase project, which involved a two-storey extension with a new boardroom, staffroom and toilets, went ahead in 2017 despite alleged shortages of teaching staff and resources including IT equipment and interactive whiteboards. But the work allegedly resulted in 'stinking' toilets and £100,000 had to be spent to put right problems, the tribunal heard.

Bathed in sunshine week near their new home close to Coventry, 32-year-old Niz, his wife Spougmai and their five children need no longer worry about ambushes. For the past five years the family have ‘lived in the shadows’ after Niz was branded an infidel spy and told by the Taliban that he would be hunted down and killed for working as a senior interpreter for the British military – and later for the Foreign Office – at the height of the war in Afghanistan. But last week Niz became the first translator to begin a new life in Britain under rules brought in by former defence secretary Gavin Williamson in a major victory for the Daily Mail and its awardwinning Betrayal of the Brave campaign.

Sliced up by the pizza club: How the secret plotters dealt a final blow to Theresa May as it is revealed the PM also broke down in tears BEFORE her resignation speech
The notorious 'pizza club' made the final plunge of the knife when British MP Andrea Leadsom resigned as Commons Leader Wednesday evening. Until last week, they had largely pulled their punches, with the only resignation from a group member coming when Dominic Raab quit as Brexit Secretary. But on Wednesday the mood was different. As the group sipped cups of tea and coffee, Ms Leadsom made clear her anger over Mrs May’s disastrous speech the previous day in which she had raised the prospect of holding a second referendum – an idea which was anathema to Brexiteer Ms Leadsom. She told the group that the speech went further than what had been agreed in Cabinet and said she felt her position was untenable – although she stopped short of asking the others to follow her lead. Ms Truss was also ‘spitting’, said sources: ‘The PM has reached the end of the road.’
