Captured in a dressing gown with unkempt grey hair and lined brows, you might be thinking Rupert Everett has let himself go a bit.

But this is not a bad hair day for the 59-year-old actor – who is pictured in character as a blue movie star for Channel 4 drama Adult Material.

Set in modern London, the four-part series will centre around actress Sheridan Smith who plays a mother with a secret life as a porn actress.

Everett's dishevelled look is a far cry from his usual dapper demeanour, as pictured below at a New York screening of the movie The Happy Prince last year.

The lead role of ageing sex film star and mother is played by Sheridan Smith, 36.

Sheridan plays a mother-of-three called Jolene, who has been in the business for more than 20 years.

The character's life is changed when she meets a dancer called Amy, who turns to the adult industry while she recovers from an injury.
