President Donald Trump got the red carpet treatment on Monday at Japan 's Imperial Palace where he made history by becoming the first world leader to meet with the new emperor of Japan. The president and first lady Melania Trump kicked off the formal visit with handshakes and greetings with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako. Trump, who is on a four-day state visit to Japan, was the center of attention under the blazing sun at an outdoor welcome ceremony full of pomp and pageantry. Melania opted for a $4,290 white Carolina Herrera dress with floral detailing and red stiletto pumps for the welcome ceremony. The couples stood on a raised platform as the national anthems of both countries were played. Trump then walked by himself down a red carpet and stood at attention atop another platform, listening to a military band. He then continued down the red carpet to review Japanese troops while Naruito and both men's wives held back. 

Scott Pelley says he was ousted from CBS Evening News because he repeatedly complained to senior management about a hostile work environment  

Former 'CBS Evening News' anchor Scott Pelley claims he lost his job because he wouldn't stop complaining to management about the hostile work environment for men and women. Pelley, who was forced out of the position in 2017 after six years on the job, told CNN's Reliable Sources on Sunday that he had repeatedly raised complaints about the workplace culture. 'We've been through a dark period of the last several years of incompetent management and sort of a hostile work environment within the news division,' he said. 'I lost my job at the 'Evening News' because I wouldn't stop complaining to management about the hostile work environment.' The '60 Minutes' correspondent said, however, that things have changed after 18 months of dramatic management changes amid a slew of scandals and misconduct claims at CBS. A CBS spokesperson issued a statement in response to Pelley's remarks, saying: 'Scott was expressing his own opinion. We disagree. 'CBS News has been working hard to advocate for an inclusive, safe and dignified workplace for everyone at CBS News and Scott has been a supporter of these efforts.'

A Hawaii yoga instructor who was found alive after going missing in a forest for 17 days was pictured breaking down in tears when she was finally able to contact her parents.  Photos taken by her rescuers showed an emotional and injured Amanda Eller calling her parents on Friday from the Maui forest where she was found to let them know she was alive. The 35-year-old was comforted by two of the men who found her as she made the tearful phone call while sitting by a creek bed. Eller, who lives in the Maui town of Haiku, was found injured in the Makawao Forest Reserve on Friday when helicopter rescue crews spotted her waving from beside the creek. She had gone missing on May 8 while hiking on a trial.

President Donald Trump met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo on Monday to hold discussions about Iran, North Korea, trade and other issues.  Trump's meeting with Abe at Akasaka Palace, the Japanese state guest house, came after the U.S. President made history by becoming the first world leader to meet the country's new Emperor Naruhito. Speaking alongside Abe, Trump said he'd had fun during the first three days of his trip to Japan - which included sumo, golf and the imperial welcome ceremony - but the leaders had to get down to the business of discussing the threat from North Korea and the continuing trade imbalance.

He couldn't afford to pay the bail himself because of a slew of financial problems and was suffering from crippling bronchitis at the time. Racky admitted his crimes straight after he was arrested and saved the city a lengthy investigation, but was still dragged through the courts and will now likely end his life with a rap sheet. It was his first offense. Now questions are being raised as to why Racky was subjected to different standards to Jussie Smollett (right). Just a few weeks before Racky's guilty plea, Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx dropped all charges against the Empire star after he allegedly staged a hate attack to try and get a raise on the show.

She was last seen sleeping at around 2am. Logan City Police said they have arrested the girl's 21-year-old uncle, Alexander Whipple (right). Police started searching for Whipple after Elizabeth's parents said she might be with him. Whipple was at the family's home Friday night. Whipple had some of the girl's clothing in his possession when he was arrested. He was subsequently jailed on a probation violation and police say he's being uncooperative in their investigation of the girl's whereabouts.

Two brothers are found dead in their Florida apartment complex pool

Ja'Kye Joseph, six, and Branario Minto, five, drowned last Wednesday night at the Silver Palms Apartment Complex in North Lauderdale where they live. Police said their mother Wildine Joseph and other family members pulled the boys from the pool at about 9.30pm but they were unresponsive. Relatives performed CPR while they waited for first responders to arrive. The brothers were rushed to the Northwest Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.

Enormous boulder the size of a house falls onto Colorado highway

A boulder (pictured) nearly the size of a house fell onto a Colorado highway Friday afternoon, prompting the state's transportation department to close the road indefinitely. The Colorado 145 highway between Cortez and Telluride sustained severe damage due to the enormous rock fall. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, the rock slide ()bottom right) is located approximately 12 miles north of Dolores. 'The slide consisting of dirt, rock and two huge boulders which have destroyed the full width of the highway pavement,' the department shared on Facebook. Officials said the impact of the boulder has left a trench that's 'approximately eight feet deep across both lanes'. 'The road is impassable at this time,' the department added. The boulder will need to be blasted into smaller pieces in order to move it from the roadway.

The rare panda was spotted at the Wolong Nature Reserve in Sichuan, China. Bear specialist Li Sheng said the albino panda was between one and two years old. Unlike its black and white relatives, the white panda was spotless and had red eyes. More than 80 percent of the world's wild pandas live in Sichuan, with the rest in Shaanxi and Gansu.

Stunning images of lions in Africa showcase work of 10 award-winning photographers

These stunning photographs showcase the work of the ten winners of a competition for places in charity book Remembering Lions (inset). The book was pre-funded with a Kickstarter campaign that has so far raised £163,000 for conservation projects. Proceeds will go towards conservation projects in Africa and Asia. Unseen British Airways photos reveal how iconic cabin crew uniforms have changed

Previously-unseen photographs showcasing the uniforms of air stewardesses who helped to ferry passengers around the world have been released by British Airways for its centenary this year. The photos include designs from 1967 (left), 1972 (top right), 1977 (bottom right) and 2003 (inset), the last time a new uniform was released. As part of BA's celebrations in August to mark 100 years since it was formed, it is to release a new uniform, but the firm is yet to go into detail on how different the new design will be. The current uniform was designed by former Givenchy designer Julien MacDonald and is worn by staff including cabin crew and check-in agents.
