Thomas Smiley, of Granite Bay, was swimming about 60 yards from shore near the Kaanapali Shores resort on Saturday. A witness saw the man in distress and called 911. The man was found unresponsive in the water and was brought to shore on a jet ski and given CPR. A witness said the man's entire left leg from the knee down was missing, and the skin on one of his wrists had been torn off. The man, who had been on vacation with his wife, could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

In March, federal authorities arrested Lori Loughlin, 54, and her husband of 22 years, Mossimo Giannulli, 55, for allegedly bribing the University of Southern California to accept their daughter Olivia Jade Giannulli (seen right with her mother), 19. The couple is seen left outside federal court in Boston in April. Olivia Jade knew about her parents' alleged payment of bribes in order to get her admitted into USC, it has been claimed. 'Olivia fully knew what her parents did to get her into USC, but didn't think there was anything wrong with it,' a source told Us Weekly. 'She didn't get into any other California schools.'

Shocking footage shows the moment customers at a Chick-Fil-A jump through the restaurant's drive-thru window for shelter when a suspected tornado suddenly hit Oklahoma City on Friday night. The two car passengers immediately hop out of their vehicle and crawl through the window as wind is seen battering their car in the background. No one was injured in the restaurant during the tornado hit. However, another devastating twister touched down in Oklahoma in El Reno on Saturday evening that killed two people, injured 29, and destroyed dozens of buildings as it ripped through a two-mile path, leaving destruction and rubble in its wake. Overall, there were nine reports of tornadoes Saturday, from the Texas panhandle to eastern Oklahoma.

A Hawaii yoga instructor who was found alive after going missing in a forest for 17 days was pictured breaking down in tears when she was finally able to contact her parents.  Photos taken by her rescuers showed an emotional and injured Amanda Eller calling her parents on Friday from the Maui forest where she was found to let them know she was alive. The 35-year-old was comforted by two of the men who found her as she made the tearful phone call while sitting by a creek bed. Eller, who lives in the Maui town of Haiku, was found injured in the Makawao Forest Reserve on Friday when helicopter rescue crews spotted her waving from beside the creek. She had gone missing on May 8 while hiking on a trial. 

President Donald Trump met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo on Monday to hold discussions about Iran, North Korea, trade and other issues.  Trump's meeting with Abe at Akasaka Palace, the Japanese state guest house, came after the U.S. President made history by becoming the first world leader to meet the country's new Emperor Naruhito. Speaking alongside Abe, Trump said he'd had fun during the first three days of his trip to Japan - which included sumo, golf and the imperial welcome ceremony - but the leaders had to get down to the business of discussing the threat from North Korea and the continuing trade imbalance. 

Melania Trump spent the day with Japan's Pemier Shinzo Abe's wife Akie Abe, enjoying a busy schedule of traditional dance, music and flower arranging performances. The two headed to the Akasaka Palace Annex in Tokyo for the cultural program. Melania stunned in a flowy $4,290 white Carolina Herrera dress with floral detailing and red stiletto pumps. On Monday she also met the founder of Shine On! Kids - a non-profit that brings trained dogs to sick children in Japanese hospitals for activities to encourage them. Donald Trump, who is on a four-day state visit to Japan, is the first world leader to meet with the new emperor.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (right) was reacting on Sunday to a feature story in The New York Times about the 'existential question' of whether Hope Hicks (left), the former White House communications director, should comply with a subpoena to testify before Congress. AOC tweeted: 'What gets me is news breaks that this woman is weighing committing a crime before Congress & it's getting framed by the NYT as some Lifetime drama called "Hope's Choice."' Congressional subpoenas are legally binding, and those who do not honor them face penalties, including possible fines or being held in contempt.

Utah authorities are still searching for five-year-old, Elizabeth Shelley (left), after she went missing on Saturday. Elizabeth was discovered missing from her family's home about 10am on Saturday. She was last seen sleeping at around 2am. Logan City Police said they have arrested the girl's 21-year-old uncle, Alexander Whipple (right). Police started searching for Whipple after Elizabeth's parents said she might be with him. Whipple was at the family's home Friday night. Whipple had some of the girl's clothing in his possession when he was arrested. He was subsequently jailed on a probation violation and police say he's being uncooperative in their investigation of the girl's whereabouts.

Ja'Kye Joseph, six, and Branario Minto, five, drowned last Wednesday night at the Silver Palms Apartment Complex in North Lauderdale where they live. Police said their mother Wildine Joseph and other family members pulled the boys from the pool at about 9.30pm but they were unresponsive. Relatives performed CPR while they waited for first responders to arrive. The brothers were rushed to the Northwest Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.

Police in Stockton, California were called to Bear Creek High School at 10.46am on Friday where an 'unruly' student was said to be fighting with school staffers. The police department said the same student resisted arrest when responding officers tried to detain him. The commotion during the arrest attracted the attention of about 80 other students who started recording the incident with their cellphones.

Hezekiah Perkins (left), 90, was laid to rest at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati on Saturday. The cemetery posted notices asking members of the public to attend Perkins's funeral since he did not have any immediate family who could attend. 'Once I learned his daughter and other family members would not be able to attend - his daughter due to health issues - I just felt it was very fitting that this soldier receive long overdue honors,' said Lynay Straughn, an employee of the cemetery.

Virpi Mikkonen (pictured), from Helsinki, Finland, is an award-winning blogger championing plant-based eating. Yet the vegan diet she was promoting as a route to health was making her sick. A specialist in Chinese medicine said Virpi should stop eating so much raw food.

Exactly one week after the epic series finale, HBO took fans behind-the-scenes of the final season with a two-hour documentary titled Game of Thrones: The Last Watch. The documentary showcased the legions of crew members and unsung cast members who have helped bring the show to life over the past eight seasons, taking fans to production hubs such as Belfast, Northern Island and Dubrovnik, Croatia, two of the primary locations the show was filmed in. There is also dramatic footage from a table read with the entire cast, showing the actors react to some of the series' biggest surprises as executive producer Bryan Cogman read the action lines.

NFL star JJ Watt is getting married! The Houston Texans defensive lineman popped the question to girlfriend Kelaia Ohai, who captains the Houston Dash of the National Women's Soccer League, while on a tropical holiday in the sun. 'I'm the luckiest man in the world. #SheSaidYes,' Watt gushed in the caption of a series of 10 photos he shared on social media.

The fire department received a call at 4.43am Saturday about the smoldering tree at Clearview Country Club in the rural town of Millbury, Massachusetts about 41 miles west of Boston. Responders found the inside of the hollowed out tree glowing bright orange. The photos showed one of the tree's partially split branches burning brightly as well. The electric blast left the inside of the tree with a beautiful, other-worldly glow.

O.J. Simpson once bragged to his former manager about his steamy 'hot-tub hookup' with Kris Jenner that sent her to the hospital because of the size of his manhood. Simpson's ex-manager Norman Pardo said that the former NFL star boasted that he 'f***ed that B until I broke her' in a hot tub in the 1990s. Pardo made the claim in his documentary Who Killed Nicole?, referring to Simpson's ex-wife, whom the football player was controversially acquitted of murdering. At the time, Kris, who has denied having sex with Simpson, was married to her first husband Robert Kardashian and Simpson was married to Nicole when the alleged Jacuzzi encounter supposedly occurred. All four of them were enjoying the hot tub together, but then Robert and Nicole left, and Simpson purportedly took advantage of his alone time with Kris to make a move. To hear Norman tell it, Simpson said that 'they had to take her [Kris] to the hospital at 2 or 3 in the morning' after he had sex with her.

Shonduras and his wife Jenny McBride filmed themselves discussing the fall. At one point in the video, Jenny begins to cry and reveals she thought she was going to die during the ordeal. The family had been walking on the Road to Hana in Maui when Jenny slipped. She rolled down a slope and dropped to the beach, scraping up her ankle and leg. The family recounted the ordeal in a dramatic video with a warning disclaimer. But many on social media believed the family hyped up the video for more clicks for their YouTube channel.

A boulder (pictured) nearly the size of a house fell onto a Colorado highway Friday afternoon, prompting the state's transportation department to close the road indefinitely. The Colorado 145 highway between Cortez and Telluride sustained severe damage due to the enormous rock fall. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, the rock slide ()bottom right) is located approximately 12 miles north of Dolores. 'The slide consisting of dirt, rock and two huge boulders which have destroyed the full width of the highway pavement,' the department shared on Facebook. Officials said the impact of the boulder has left a trench that's 'approximately eight feet deep across both lanes'. 'The road is impassable at this time,' the department added. The boulder will need to be blasted into smaller pieces in order to move it from the roadway.

Botched's Dr. Paul Nassif says he will fix comedian Artie Lange's flattened nose - if the comic can stay off drugs, as future narcotic abuse would reverse the cosmetic procedure. Nassif, 56, told TMZ Sunday that Lange has a 'saddle nose deformity' common with boxers and people who have abused cocaine. Nassif stressed that the 51-year-old New Jersey native, who appeared on The Howard Stern Show from 2001 until 2008, would have to keep his nose clean, literally, for the procedure to maintain its effectiveness.

In a head-to-head duel for the ages, Simon Pagenaud defeated none other than Rossi with a dramatic pass on the penultimate lap, then holding on the rest of the way to hand Penske his 18th win at the Indianapolis 500, 'The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.' Pagenaud was dominant all day, leading 116 of the 200 laps, and the win was cathartic. He stopped his car at the start-finish line and hopped out to share the moment with his fans, including fiancee Hailey McDermott (bottom right). And once he finally made his way to victory lane, Pagenaud climbed from his car and let out a primal scream, then dumped the entire bottle of milk over his head (left).

Houston, Texas medical school student Claudia Martinez (right in March, and left in a hospital bed) has survived six brain surgeries and a stroke while studying to become a doctor, after having her first operation at age 19 in 2012. After every single procedure, Martinez has had to relearn how to perform simple tasks like brushing her teeth, getting dressed by herself and walking. It hasn't stopped her, as she shares intimate moments from her years of treatment on social media to bring awareness to others with 'inivisible illnesses' like hers, which is called Chiara Malformation. Martinez has just finished her third year at UTHealth. In 2020, eight years after her diagnosis and first surgery, she'll have earned her medial degree. Catherine Scorsese (left) lives in a one-bedroom loft duplex in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, which she bought in 2007 for $800,000. Now worth $400,000 more than that, it recently flooded (right) with 'raw sewage' after a neighbor put shredded paper down the toilet and will take four months to repair before it is livable again. Cathyerine, 53, has moved to an apartment in Manhattan that is being paid for by her insurance company but it is not big enough for her cats and dogs. Her half-sister, Tanya, therefore launched the campaign on her behalf so that she would be able to pay for the animals' accommodation.

Curley Lee Duff shot Enique Trujillo in the leg after an April standoff in L.A. He was trying to run from police when they cornered him in a housing project. The moment Duff charged at the cop was caught on surveillance cameras and on the officer's own body camera. Trujillo shot Duff back and the suspect was brought to the ground. Both survived and Duff is now in custody on attempted murder charges It is unclear why he got involved in the incident; police were chasing someone else who had fled from a car after a routine traffic stop

Mark Duda, 56, has been charged with residential burglary after being found in the Pomona treehouse (pictured). Authorities believe Duda took 'numerous items' from a home in the area on April 18. But he was only found on May 21 after it was reported that someone was living in a well-disguised' treehouse hidden deep into a hillside in the suburb. Pomona police used helicopter with a heat sensing system to find the treehouse and arrest Duda.

Astonishing pictures show the moment a man in his 20s is found squeezed behind a car dashboard (left) trying to enter Spain's North African enclave, Melilla. Police said three vehicles were stopped in the space of three hours yesterday (Saturday). Another migrant was found wedged in an engine compartment (Inset) while a third was discovered under rear seats. Pictures also show a fourth migrant who was also found packed into a car's bodywork (Right). Border police said three men were arrested after the vehicles were stopped at Beni-Enzar, Morocco. All Moroccan nationals, the trio aged 19, 30 and 31 were held on suspicion of people smuggling.

The rare panda was spotted at the Wolong Nature Reserve in Sichuan, China. Bear specialist Li Sheng said the albino panda was between one and two years old. Unlike its black and white relatives, the white panda was spotless and had red eyes. More than 80 percent of the world's wild pandas live in Sichuan, with the rest in Shaanxi and Gansu.

These stunning photographs showcase the work of the ten winners of a competition for places in charity book Remembering Lions (inset). The book was pre-funded with a Kickstarter campaign that has so far raised £163,000 for conservation projects. Proceeds will go towards conservation projects in Africa and Asia. Previously-unseen photographs showcasing the uniforms of air stewardesses who helped to ferry passengers around the world have been released by British Airways for its centenary this year. The photos include designs from 1967 (left), 1972 (top right), 1977 (bottom right) and 2003 (inset), the last time a new uniform was released. As part of BA's celebrations in August to mark 100 years since it was formed, it is to release a new uniform, but the firm is yet to go into detail on how different the new design will be. The current uniform was designed by former Givenchy designer Julien MacDonald and is worn by staff including cabin crew and check-in agents.
