Donald Trump has demanded a change to libel laws after hitting out at an NYU professor who tweeted a made-up quote attributed to him on Sunday.

Ian Bremmer, the president and founder of Eurasia Group and a political science professor, posted a tweet on Sunday morning saying Kim Jong-un would make a better President than Joe Biden.

'Kim Jong Un is smarter and would make a better President than Sleepy Joe Biden,' Bremmer wrote in the now-deleted tweet, attributing it to Trump.

Hours later, however, Trump hit back with his own tweet claiming Bremmer had admitted to him that the quote was made up.

'Ian Bremmer now admits that he MADE UP “a completely ludicrous quote,” attributing it to me,' the President wrote on Twitter.

'This is what’s going on in the age of Fake News,' he added, 'People think they can say anything and get away with it. Really, the libel laws should be changed to hold Fake News Media accountable!'

In a now-deleted tweet in the wake of the initial post, Bremmer appeared to defend the quote saying it was 'kinda plausible'.

He wrote: 'This is objectively a completely ludicrous quote. And yet kinda plausible. Especially on Twitter, where people automatically support whatever political position they have. That's the point.'

Soon after Bremmer posted the first tweet, he was called out by fellow academics who revealed it was made-up.

Canadian journalist Daniel Dale tweeted: 'This quote is fabricated. As often, no idea what Bremmer is doing.'

And Geopolitics analyst Ankit Panda wrote: 'This is not a real Trump quote… If you're basing your views of reality based on Ian Bremmer's tweets in 2019, please reconsider.'

North Korea has previously called Biden a 'fool of low IQ' and an 'imbecile bereft of elementary quality as a human being' after he labelled Kim Jong-un a tyrant in a speech.

Biden during a campaign launch in Philadelphia on Saturday accused Trump of cozying up to 'dictators and tyrants' like Kim and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Bremmer has since deleted not only the original fake quote, but also his own explanations and responses amid the growing backlash.
