Lucy Liu dons sleek cape dress at Luke Cage bash after directing season two premiere of the series

She directed the first episode of Luke Cage's second season.

And Lucy Liu was a showstopper when she attended the season's premiere party Thursday evening at New York City's Edison Ballroom.

Having gone blonde this year, the 49-year-old wore her hair in a bit of a pompadour up front and gathered it into a ponytail at the back.

Lucy epitomized chic in a simple white dress with a charcoal cape, cinching the ensemble round her enviably trim waistline with a black belt.

The New York City-born actress complemented mismatched earrings with a gleaming gold-toned clutch and a matching bracelet.

Accentuating her screen siren features with an elegantly minimalist makeup job, she added a splash of color with a bright crimson shade of nail polish.

The Charlie's Angels star, who rose to fame for her Emmy-nominated turn on Ally McBeal, completed the ensemble with black open-toed ankle-strap heels.

Lucy's directing gig on Luke Cage, a show she does not act in, is not her first time at the rodeo - she has helmed four episodes of the series Elementary.

Elementary adapts Sherlock Holmes to the present era and stars Lucy as Joan Watson, a gender-flipped version of Arthur Conan Doyle's John Watson.

On Thursday's red carpet, she told Marvel, who is behind the show, that 'I had an incredible time working on it, and it was really a privilege to be stepping into those shoes, and they said that I was the first woman to direct on Luke Cage, which I was really shocked about.'

Of the episode itself, she spilled: 'I think that the character has evolved, and I think there's a looseness with the way that we filmed this that allows the actors to really work together, and there's a really great chemistry between them, and which - which I wanted to keep when we were working together.

Her way of preserving this dynamic was that 'I don't do a lot of cuts. I keep them together in the same frame quite a bit, and I like that, because I think when actors work together and they're on, they really - it sort of elevates the material.'
