Shocking footage shows the moment customers at a Chick-fil-A abandoned their car and jumped through the restaurant's drive-thru window when a suspected tornado suddenly hit Oklahoma City on Friday night.

The twister touched down in southern Oklahoma City Friday evening with such force that Chick-fil-A workers had urged two drive-thru customers to exit their car and rush into the building for safety.

Surveillance footage showed two people hop out of their vehicle and crawl through the window as wind is seen battering their car in the background.

Surveillance footage from inside the restaurant show workers dressed in red frantically herding customers into a safe area inside the shop, away from windows. Officials believe it was a twister that hit Friday night, according to KFOR.

No one was injured in the restaurant during the tornado hit.

The customers and workers were seen running frantically as winds started to knock items on the counters onto the ground 

The incident took place at this Chick-Fil-A near 1-40 and MacArthur in Oklahoma City on Friday evening

However, another devastating twister touched down in Oklahoma in El Reno on Saturday evening that killed two people, injured 29, and destroyed dozens of buildings as it ripped through a two-mile path, leaving destruction and rubble in its wake.  

El Reno Mayor Matt White announced the tragic deaths during a news conference Sunday morning, saying two people were tragically killed and a motel and nearby mobile park home was destroyed by the tornado.

Sunday morning White said that some victims were still in surgery 'as we speak' adding, 'there's some absolutely major issues at this point in time'.   

Sixteen people were transported by officials to hospitals in Oklahoma City and an additional 13 people were taken in private vehicles with injuries that ranged from minor to critical condition, according to Fox. 

Shocking before and after pictures show the twister's range of destruction in the town. The tornado hit six years to the date of another twister that ripped through the very same town. 

According to the National Weather Service Saturday's tornado was an EF-2 tornado. EF-2 tornadoes have winds between 111 and 135mph and can create 'considerable damage'.   

The tornado touched down and swirled across Interstate 40, decimating the American Budget Inn. More than 30 people were reportedly inside the hotel when the twister struck. 

Witnesses said they saw people being pulled from the rubble of the hotel in the aftermath.

The motel sign and building was left completely decimated and in tatters following the twister that hit around 10.30pm 

'We have absolutely experienced a traumatic event here in El Reno,' White told ABC News.

'We had an incident where a tornado hit a mobile home park, a hotel and several business(es). It's been a serious, serious event here. We have all hands on deck.' 

'It's a very trying time for us, but we're going to get through it,' he added.

Onlookers have been asked to stay away from the area while rescue teams search through the debris.

'This is an unfortunate example of just how quickly these types of storms can develop,'  Union City Police Department Chief Richard Stephens wrote on Facebook. 'Please remain weather aware and be prepared.' 

Loyd Roberts, of Burnet, Texas, said he was sleeping at the motel when the roof tell in.

'That is what woke me up,' he said to the Oklahoman. 'The roof caved in, desk flipped over, the room looked like a bomb hit it. I pulled the sheet rock off of me and started looking for people. All I saw was people with scrapes and bruises.'

Tweety Garrison, 63, told The Associated Press early Sunday that she was inside her mobile home — along with her husband, two young grandchildren and a family friend — when the storm hit. 

Garrison said when she heard the storm coming, she immediately hit the ground. Moments later, she heard the mobile home next door slam into hers, before it flipped over and landed on her roof.

The incident lasted around five to 10 minutes. Garrison said there was a tornado warning on her phone but the sirens did not go off until after tornado hit.

The tornado struck El Reno nearly six years to the day after the city was hit by the widest tornado on record. 

Eight people were killed and 151 were injured when a tornado tore through a 16.2-mile path on May 31, 2013.  

Storms have ravaged central U.S. states over the last week, and are continuing to threaten major flooding into the holiday weekend.

Smith says crews will assess the damage on Sunday to determine the severity. 

A tornado warning was issued for downtown Oklahoma City as the same thunderstorm that struck El Reno blasted into the area. A possible tornado caused damage at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds, according to Accuweather.  

A tornado was also spotted near Oktaha, Oklahoma on Sunday morning and tornado warnings were issued for Broken Arrow and Tulsa. Another suspected twister was also reported in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on Sunday morning.

Overall, there were nine reports of tornadoes Saturday, from the Texas panhandle to eastern Oklahoma.

Suriel revealed that at least 24 tornadoes were recorded in less than 24 hours in the U.S., and 52 tornadoes had formed in even states in the span of three days last week.  

Heavy rain in recent weeks has also spurred major flooding in several states. 

Flooding along the Arkansas River will threaten communities from Tulsa into western Arkansas through at least the holiday weekend, officials said Friday, as water released from an Oklahoma dam combines with additional rain in the forecast.

To control flooding in Tulsa, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Friday began increasing the amount of water being released into the river from the Keystone Dam northwest of the city of about 400,000 people.
