'Sorry I can't make your party!' Hugh Jackman leads a 50,000-strong crowd singing 'Happy Birthday' to actor Ian McKellen live on stage in Manchester

He may be touring the world with his one-man show, but Hugh Jackman still has time to wish his friends a happy birthday.

The Australian actor, 50, was forced to skip Sir Ian McKellen's 80th birthday party on Saturday night because it clashed with his scheduled concert in Manchester, UK.

But Hugh still commemorated the occasion by leading the 50,000-strong crowd in singing 'Happy Birthday' to his X-Men co-star.

Hugh recorded the entire spectacle on his iPhone and shared the footage with his 26 million Instagram followers.

'I'm sorry I can't make your party, Ian... I think I might annoy about 50,000 people,' he said in the video.

The Wolverine star then encouraged the sold-out crowd to sing along as cheers erupted throughout Manchester Arena.

He will perform across North America, Australia and New Zealand in the coming months after wrapping up his UK dates.

Hugh previously described the show, in which he performs songs from The Greatest Showman and Les Misérables, as a 'dream come true'.
