The statement came amid news that 55-year-old actress/writer filed for divorce from actor Gomez, 52, after 25 years of marriage, TMZ reported Tuesday. The couple tied the knot in 1993 and in 2008 adopted their daughter Ilaria Vardalos Gomez, 11.
The couple's full statement read, 'We’ve been respectfully separated for a lengthy period of time. Our relationship became a friendship so the decision to end the marriage is completely mutual and amicable.
