They say everything is bigger in Texas, and that's including the wildlife. 

It was a lesson one Walmart employee learned the hard way when they discovered a huge snake inside a shopping cart. 

The employee was collecting carts at the Walmart in Cross Roads when they came across a large rat snake sitting inside one of the carts on Saturday.

They let out a loud scream, which caught the attention of a Northeast Police Department officer who was patrolling the area. 

Police then called on John Heckaman, known as 'The Snake Charmer', to help. 

Heckaman, of Savannah, was able to safely assist in the relocation of the snake - although he was bitten once in the process. 

One photo posted on the police department's Facebook page shows him handling the large reptile, which on average measure 3ft to 5ft long.

Authorities said that many snakes in Texas have been forced out of their natural habitats due to recent heavy rains

'This goes to show that they can turn up just about anywhere,' the department warned. 

Rat snakes are non-venomous and are the second most common type of snake to be kept as a pet. 

They are found throughout the every Southeastern state and most of the Eastern and Midwestern states, according to the University of Georgia.
