Since my retirement in 2015 at the age of 65, I've been somewhat perplexed at having my state pension downgraded by £30 per week due to the fact that in 1987 I took out a self employed pension. Even though I have a record of 50 years of NI contributions yet my pension is still reduced. I feel that over the years I've done the right thing. The Department for Work and Pensions decision irks me very much.

How much internet speed do you really need? Everything you need to know about fibre broadband - and the best deals now
There is often confusion over which type of broadband is really the fastest and how much speed the average person really needs to power their internet. Standard copper broadband is often no longer sophisticated enough to handle the public's ever increasing data download needs, but are you one of the people who would be better off with fibre broadband and how fast do you need to go?

FTSE CLOSE: Sterling still languishing in the doldrums at $1.27; Retail chain Select battles for survival
As investors digested the European election results after after leaving their screens for the long bank holiday weekend, the pound remained in the doldrums, trading at about $1.27. In company news, Travelodge is planning to open 17 new hotels this year, an investment that will cost it around £115million. And housebuilding giant Bovis Homes has confirmed it is no longer in discussions to acquire rival Galliford Try's housing business, after an offer worth £1.05billion was rebuffed last week. The FTSE 100 closed down 9 points despite a commodity rally.

Turn your photos into a money-spinner: Budding photographers can earn thousands of pounds - just by sending in snaps taken on their phone
Stockimo, owned by stock photography site, Alamy, allows users to contribute photos taken on their smartphone to the app, which can be of anything and everything, from selfies to pets and holidays to food. One lucky contributor even managed to snap up £2,780 on a sale - not bad for a single iPhone snapshot.
Want a piece of one-off financial advice? Here's what should you ask for and expect to get... and how much it might cost
Many people could benefit from one-time help over some aspect of their finances, and this need not tie you into a long-term relationship with an adviser. Paying ongoing fees is not compulsory, and unless you are getting a substantial level of ongoing help in exchange each year, might not be value for money. It's perfectly acceptable to ask an adviser for expert assistance on a particular financial concern, agree between you it will be a single transaction, pay up, and walk away.
Five under £50k! Homes for sale that won't break the bank, including a four-bed house in Britain's best place to live
The average home in the UK costs more than £200,000 but it possible to buy one for a quarter of that - although it's likely to need some work. Among the homes we found was one on the Orkney Islands, bottom right, the area was named as the best place to live in Britain by the Halifax quality of life survey earlier this year. Other locations include clockwise from bottom left, Doncaster, Northumberland, Rotherham and Middlesborough, inset.
How to invest like Warren Buffett: From picking shares, to fund managers who follow his lead... learn the art of Buffettology!
There is probably no more successful investor living on planet earth today than Warren Buffett. Although now aged 88, he very much remains a cult figure among investors - not just in the United States but worldwide - as a result of his wonderful eye for picking long-term investment winners. An eye that has remained focused for nigh on half a century. Razor sharp. Eagle like. Earlier this month, some 40,000 shareholders flocked to the annual general meeting of Berkshire Hathaway, the company he has run since 1970 and through which he makes his astute investments.
TONY HETHERINGTON: How can this firm of muggers at Global Spread Exchange even sleep at night?
I was contacted by a 'David Green' and was persuaded to invest £500, having been told that his company is approved by the Financial Conduct Authority. Later, a 'Blake Crawford' rang to say he had made £245 profit for me and urged me to invest a further £1,000. I told him I would not add to the £500, though other people have since called from the company with the same request. Now I find I cannot contact them.
My career was going downhill but a night with Torvill and Dean saved me: Skier Chemmy Alcott reveals how Dancing on Ice boosted her fortunes, in Me & My Money
The show transformed Alcott's finances and allowed her to represent Britain at the 2014 Olympics in Russia, just three years after injuring her leg so badly she was left unable to walk. Now 36, she lives with husband Dougie Crawford, who is British ski champion, and their two sons, two-year-old Loki and four-month-old Cooper. She is a founding member of Sistr, an online platform that enables professional businesswomen to network, offer advice and mentor each other.
Nurture your investment portfolio like a garden: Learn when to sow, prune and weed... and your returns will BLOOM
With gardeners now out in force caring for their beloved trees, plants and lawns, investors could do worse than take a leaf out of their book - and apply similar techniques to neglected share and fund portfolios. The basics include weeding out persistently poorly performing investments and sowing the seeds for new, hopefully profitable, ones. Pruning is also important - taking profits, for tax-efficient purposes. And for those who need income, it is sensible to select investments that will bloom often to provide the dividends required. Here's how to keep your portfolio in tip-top shape.
It could save you money now but does the mortgage price war spell trouble in the future? This is Money podcast
Tesco Bank has ditched mortgages, while a string of other smaller players have shut their doors in recent months, and building society behemoth Nationwide issue its own caution on home loans this week? On this week's podcast, we dive into what is currently a weird world of mortgages: where a greater supply of money to lend than demand to borrow means there are some very cheap deals on offer.

How Metro Bank chief cashed in a quarter of his holding before shares tanked and pocketed £2.5m
The boss of troubled Metro Bank pocketed £2.5 million when he sold a large chunk of shares before the stock price tanked over fears about its future. Craig Donaldson flogged 63,000 shares, or around a quarter of his holding, for 4017p each on March 8 last year, records show. Two days earlier, the stock had hit an all-time high of 4040p. It has since crashed more than 80 per cent to 752p, driven lower by a major accounting error which had led to questions over Donaldson's credibility.

Savers misled by wrong state pension forecasts that left their plans 'in tatters' - but the Government only admits to 'occasional' errors
A This is Money investigation has revealed a string of incorrect forecasts sent to people now facing a poorer retirement than they expected. These cases point to a systematic failure, with potentially many more savers affected who haven't realised yet. Sandra Irving, pictured left, has been told her record puts her state pension at around £22 a week less than the original figure she was given - a possible shortfall of nearly £23,000 over a typical 20-year retirement.Colin Murray, top right, and Vivienne Young, bottom right with husband Phil, are also affected.
Safety first: New £20,000 Mazda 3 family car scores the highest crash protection rating EVER in latest tests
Euro NCAP, the body that rates new vehicle safety, rewarded the Japanese car a 98 per cent adult occupant protection score - that equals the top mark recorded for just three other new models. Following the assessments the crash test body said: 'Dummy readings showed good protection for all critical body regions of the passenger.'
I'm saving for a deposit but won't get there before Help to Buy ends in 2023, are there other options to buy with a small deposit?
I've started saving for a deposit, but unless I win the lottery, it's unlikely I'll have enough money together to put down a deposit for at least five years. My friends have bought using the Help to Buy scheme, but this is ending in 2023, and I know I won't have the money saved in time. What other options will I have for getting on the ladder with a small deposit?
SIMON LAMBERT: Nationwide says it's 'on your side' so why has it hacked 0.5% off a savings rate for children?
We recently received a letter from Nationwide, after the thinnest of apologies it said the rate on my daughter's account would be hacked back from 2.5 per cent to 2 per cent. It then goes on to mention another children's savings account, which some digging reveals should pay the same or more - except all there is not as it seems either.. So, why on earth would you mess with children's savings like this?

How much do I need to save for my pension? A quick guide to retirement saving...
The amount you can save into a pension ultimately depends on what you can afford - but the longer you leave it the more you will need to save. We tend to put ambitious targets on our hoped-for income in retirement and then underestimate how much we will need to set aside to achieve that. So how much should you save?
What next for interest rates? Bank tipped to hold for most of 2019, as inflation stays low and Brexit is extended
Lower than expected inflation figures have added weight to expectations that interest rate rises will remain on hold throughout most of 2019. This combined with the Brexit extension is forecast to keep monetary policy steady, with rates held at 0.75 per cent. While unemployment is low and wages are rising, there are still concerns over Britain's consumer economy and business investment being stalled by continuing Brexit uncertainty.
What next for mortgage rates? Rates low as lenders chase business
The average two-year fixed rate mortgage rate has crept up by 0.13 per cent in the past month, possibly showing the first signs that the ongoing price war between lenders is drawing to a close.
