Carlos Rivera, 47, appeared before a judge in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on Tuesday to be arraigned on charges of sexually assaulting a minor and supplying cocaine. He is accused of sexually assaulting Chloe Ricard, 13, twice and giving her drugs then dropping her off at a hospital on May 20.

Thomas 'Tommy' Gilbert Jr, 34, is on trial for the murder of his father Thomas Gilbert Sr in January 2015 in a case that shocked New York's high society. He appeared in court Tuesday looking frail and thin - a stark contrast to the strapping and handsome man he once was. His mother Shelley Gilbert will testify against her son after her husband was shot while she was out getting her son a sandwich, at his request. The wealthy New York hedge fund boss had cut his son's $600 allowance by $200 and stopped paying his $2,400 a month rent. Shelley Gilbert instantly told police that she suspected her son Gilbert Jr was the killer, saying 'it was obvious he had done it'. Actor Jake Gyllenhaal is slated to produce a true crime film titled Gilded Rage about Gilbert Jr and the murder of his father.

Sahil Saini (left), who is Indian-American, found himself on the receiving end of racially charged verbal abuse in Auburn, Washington, and caught on video a white man driving a BMW (right) spewing profanities at him. Saini tweeted on May 24 that he was driving through the parking lot of a local college when he noticed the BMW riding his bumper and sped up to get away from him, which ultimately prompted the confrontation.

Ed Dohring (pictured right), from Arizona, fulfilled a lifelong ambition to summit the world's highest peak, at 29,029 feet, but that dream very nearly turned sour when he witnessed the overrun path to the top filled with people who were 'not fit and not experienced' jostling to take selfies. Dohring, 62, who waited for hours in line, chest to chest with other climbers (footage shows the long queues), said he was forced to sit down once he finally reached the peak because the flat part of the summit is only about the size of two Ping-Pong tables, but was packed with 15 or 20 people jostling to take photographs next to a several-thousand foot drop. This year has been the deadliest for climbers on Mount Everest since 2012, when 10 climbers died. All 11 deaths in 2019 occurred during peak climbing season.

A Tornado Watch has been issued in four states after 52 tornadoes touched down in the Midwest overnight, leaving one dead and more than 60 others injured. 'First Tornado Watch of the day has been issued,' the National Weather Service (NWS) tweeted Tuesday morning. 'It is for parts of New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia until 10pm EDT.' The weather service urged the public to 'get things in order now' just in case a tornado warning is issued later in the day. Several 'rapid-fire' tornadoes left five million people without power in Ohio alone, officials said earlier on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management released a state map that shows all 77 counties in the state under a state of emergency declaration due to flooding, tornadoes and severe storms.

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump returned home to the White House on Tuesday after a four-day state visit to Japan and will leave again this weekend to head for the United Kingdom, where they they will meet Queen Elizabeth II.  The first couple disembarked from Marine One and held hands as they walked across the lawn into the White House residence.  The president waved but didn't stop to speak to reporters after the 13-hour flight that included a refueling stop in Alaska.

The 49-year-old first lady accompanying her husband on a four-day trip to Japan this weekend. The couple attended several events, including a state dinner and a sumo wrestling match. Melania was photographed in six different outfits during the trip, including the $3,900 Calvin Klein dress with a postcard print that she arrived in on Saturday. On Sunday, she wore a $3,450 Loro Piana jumpsuit to visit a museum during the day, and changed into a $2,020 Roland Mouret dress for the evening. On Monday, she started in a $4,290 Carolina Herrera dress but swapped it for a $4,490 J. Mendel gown at night. Her last outfit was a $1,100 yellow Dries Van Noten coat on Tuesday.

A minor league baseball team has apologized for a 'misleading and offensive' Memorial Day tribute video that portrayed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. (right) as one of several American 'adversaries,' along with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un (upper far left) and deceased former Cuban President Fidel Castro (upper near left). According to Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies, the video was meant to be a 'moving tribute' to the armed forces, but a spokesman explained the team was 'embarrassed' to find the freshman congresswoman's image edited into the footage so as to portray her as one of America's adversaries. The video, which was shown on the scoreboard between games during Monday's doubleheader, featured several images of United States armed service members and had a voice over from President Ronald Reagan's 1981 inaugural address played throughout. Three minutes into the video, as Reagan warns about 'enemies of freedom' and 'potential adversaries,' Ocasio-Cortez is pictured between images of Jong-un, Castro, and Antifa protesters. As USA Today reported, the employee responsible for playing the video has been identified. Grizzlies spokesperson Paul Braverman told USA Today that going forward, the team will use 'an abundance of caution' and likely refrain from airing internet videos at Chukchansi Park in Fresno, California. Ocasio-Cortez has not responded publicly on the matter.

American talk show host Elle DeGeneres, 61, pictured left, reveals she didn't tell her mother for 'a few years' about the sexual assault she claims she suffered at the hands of her stepfather. Ellen said when she did, her mother Betty (pictured right) didn't believe her and stayed with her husband - something she is 'apologetic' for now. Ellen, who was '15 or 16' at the time (inset), is speaking out to inspire other victims to come forward if they suffer at the hands of sexual predators.

Eduardo Madiedo picked up two passengers - a man and a woman - in Queens, New York on Thursday and was asked to drive them to Mount Sinai Hospital in the Astoria section of the borough. The first 11 minutes of the ride proceed without incident before the male passenger in the back seat appeared ill and removed his shirt. The male passenger gets visibly irritated while asking Madiedo, the driver, to drive faster. When Madiedo tell him he can't, the man lunges toward the driver and begins to savagely punch him repeatedly.

'Bachelorette' fans complained when Jamie Simpson's tornado updates interrupted the reality show late Monday. The meteorologist lost it on live TV and said he was 'sick and tired' of the complaints and his job was 'to keep people safe'. His rant was widely shared and the bachelorette Hannah Brown tweeted her support for Simpson. The tornado went on to ravage the Dayton area later in the night.

A memoir by Nazi Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop's son has been released in English for the first time and includes unseen photos of the author growing up in London before the Second World War. Rudolf von Ribbentrop (pictured inset in Nazi uniform) went to the exclusive Westminster School while his father was Hitler's ambassador in London from 1936 to 1938. The elder von Ribbentrop was one of Hitler's closest henchmen and rose to become the Third Reich's Foreign Minister before being executed at Nuremburg in 1946 for helping orchestrate the Holocaust. His son went on to fight on both the Eastern and Western fronts and won the Iron Cross - before becoming a wine merchant after the war. He is still alive aged 98 today. His biography was first released in 2008 in German but has now been translated into English for the first time. On Tuesday, as the search (inset right) continued for missing Elizabeth Shelley (inset left), police in Logan, Utah released new images (left and right) of her uncle Alexander Whipple, 21, who is being held on an outstanding warrant. The new images show Whipple on Friday, the day before Elizabeth disappeared, and cops hope residents may be able to identify Whipple on home security footage from the clothing he was seen wearing. 'Everything he has done has been quite deceitful, and we have no reason to believe that anything he told us was accurate,' Logan Police Captain Tyson Budge said of Whipple at a press conference on Monday.

In an interview with ABC, the 39-year-old former basketball player joked about the last time he did cocaine, laughing when asked if he had done it 'yesterday', and said the first time he ever tried it was 'like unleashing a demon'. He admitted hiding it from Khloe Kardashian, his ex-wife, for 'a long time' and said he felt remorse at treating 'that queen' the way he did. ''I was a professional at hiding it. 'You don't want your wife to know that you're sniffing coke and ... having sex with other women,' he said.

A trio of cousins were performing a rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star at a family talent show in Buffalo, Wyoming, but one boy decided to mix it up by singing the Imperial March instead. The iconic film theme by John Williams marks the ominous arrival of Darth Vader in Star Wars. The hilarious moment was shared on Twitter by relative Erin Gibson where it has amassed more than 7,000,000 views in two days, and even been praised by real-life Jedi Mark Hamill.

A 2,000-year-old marble bust found trapped within a medieval wall in Rome may depict the face of Dionysus, the ancient god of wine and festivity. Archaeologists discovered the stone head during recent excavations near the Roman Forum, in the heart of the city, according to The Local. It was built into the wall itself. Experts say it was likely once part of a much larger statue, and had eyes made of glass or previous stone.

Jairo Vargas begged for forgiveness after his wife caught him cheating and she relented, on condition that he stripped naked atop her SUV as she drove around the city of Barranquilla in Colombia. Multiple viral online videos showed how the embarrassed husband lay across the roof while burying his head in a towel. Vargas is seen in another cellphone video pounding on the driver's window and scrubbing the front windshield. The Colombian National Police was eventually called in to restore order, arresting Vargas and issuing him a summons for causing public nuisance on a street.

Peter Max was a countercultural icon who has created art for the Super Bowl and World Cup. After running into financial trouble in 1997, he began selling his art at cruise ship auctions. But as he fell deeper into dementia, his son Adam became more involved with his studio. In 2012 Max's studio was on the brink of bankruptcy as he struggled to create. But in seven years it has since made more than $93million in sales, including more than $30million in net profit in 2018. Witnesses said Adam had hired assistant painters to mimic father's work and claimed these imitations were being sold as originals - with Max's signature - to increase studio profits. Adam claimed Max's wife Mary was physically abusing him, while she alleged that he had kidnapper his father to keep his studio scheme running. Max's daughter Libra has since booted Adam from the company and wants to return her father's studio to its 'original' vision.

The 130-foot 'My Song' (inset right) - built three years ago for billionaire Italian fashion boss Pier Luigi Laro Piana - was being brought back from America on a freighter for a regatta in Sardinia when the storm struck, knocking the yacht off the deck of the ship. Experts say that even if the wrecked yacht is recovered it will almost certainly be a total write-off. Arnold Schwarzenegger tried his hand at rapping in a new song with Austrian singer Andreas Gabalier. The duet, titled Pump it Up, is an inspirational message about motivation and achieving goals. Schwarzenegger raps about never giving up and working hard. The 71-year-old also throws in his famous Terminator catch phrases 'I'll be back' and 'Hasta la vista, baby'. Posted over the weekend, the music video already has 650,000 views on YouTube. The video also shows Arnie pumping iron in the gym, cycling around Los Angeles and old clips of the bodybuilder.

A Mexican government minister voluntarily stepped down from her post this weekend after she ordered an airplane back to the gate because she was running late. Josefa González-Blanco was about to miss her flight to work-related flight to Mexicali last Friday morning when she asked an Aeromexico at the Mexico City airport to return the aircraft to the terminal.  Much to the dismay of fellow passengers, the captain piloted the plane to the gate, informing the customers that he was acting under a 'presidential order'.  González-Blanco stressed it was solely her decision and not an edict that came down from President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's (pictured left on the right image) office.

Amanda Eller , 35, thanked each and every one of the volunteers who worked for help find her after she went missing during a hike in the Makawao Forest Reserve on May 8. 'You guys are the heroes,' Eller, who is currently recovering in a wheelchair, told her rescuers. 'I am not the hero, I am just the girl sitting here healing my ankles'. Eller's friend Javier Cantellops was in the helicopter when he spotted her waving up at him near the Kailua reservoir on Friday. Cantellops said the helicopter only had five minutes left of fuel before it had to go back to the heliport when Eller suddenly came into view. We're coming up this waterfall and I look down and she appears out of the woods. It can only be described as magic,' he said.

Footage of Queen Victoria visiting Dublin, Ireland, in 1900 has been discovered by a British Film Institute curator after it lay unnoticed for decades in a New York museum archive. Bryony Dixon said she 'almost fell of her chair' when she saw Victoria in the footage and added it was rare because it showed the monarch smiling, in contrast to the stoic expression she often displayed in portraits. The footage is also believed to be the last time she was caught on camera before her death aged 81 in 1901.

An injured female elephant and her calf strayed into Hiran village in the Indian state of Odisha on April 7. Villagers said the mother elephant had broken its right leg and also had a wound on her forehead. For six weeks the villagers and vets hired by forest rangers battled to save the elephant, but were unable to do so. Heart-wrenching footage shows the innocent calf trying to wake its mother up.

Edrick Truitt said he was stopped by the officer in a convenience store parking lot in Helena–West Helena, Arkansas, on Sunday morning.Truitt said he started filming the officer when he approached Truitt's car 'just in case.' Truitt said the officer pulled his gun on him 'for no reason' and that he decided to keep his hands on full display for fear he might get shot despite the cop's orders. Truitt was arrested and charged with failing to obey a lawful order. Helena–West Helena police said they are reviewing Body Cam footage worn by the officer.

Makayla Twigg, 22, was posing for photos at her graduation from Harding University in Buffalo, New York. All of a sudden, her brother Daylon turned up unexpectedly after previously telling her he could not attend. Daylon had spent the previous three years serving as an airman in Japan and Idaho and the close brother and sister had not been able to see each other. The shocked Makayla said: 'I wish I could relive that whole day over and over again.'

Shia mourners gathered in the city of Lucknow in northern India for a religious procession when a stray bull ploughed through the 250,000-strong crowd, injuring at least 12 people. Many tried to bring the rampaging bull under control by grappling its horns and three people remain in a critical condition following the shocking incident. It is tenth stray animal attack in the city in two months and locals have blamed authorities for failing to erect security barriers.

Carli Cunningham (inset) from Parkville, Missouri, had just picked up four-year-old Ruger (pictured)from the groomers when the hilarity ensued. With her usual groomer out of town, Carli tried a new one and gave her specific instructions not to shave him. However, on picking Ruger up she was shocked to see his hind legs (right) had been shaved to the skin, giving him the look that he'd got pants on as the rest of his body was still furry.
