A hero truck driver tried to pull a mother and her four children from the burning wreckage of their car after a horror crash killed the family (truck pictured bottom right). Charmaine Harris McLeod (left), 35, died instantly on Monday night when she was overtaking a truck on the Bunya Highway near Kumbia, Queensland. Three of Ms McLeod's children were unable to be rescued and died in the back seat of the family's station wagon, and a fourth child was rushed to hospital but died on the way. The truck Ms McLeod slammed into also caught fire but the driver, a 47-year-old man, escaped and attempted to free the victims from the car as it was engulfed in flames. The father of the children, James McLeod (centre with children) has released an emotional statement after his immense loss.

A memoir by Nazi Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop's son has been released in English for the first time and includes unseen photos of the author growing up in London before the Second World War. Rudolf von Ribbentrop (pictured inset in Nazi uniform) went to the exclusive Westminster School while his father was Hitler's ambassador in London from 1936 to 1938. The elder von Ribbentrop was one of Hitler's closest henchmen and rose to become the Third Reich's Foreign Minister before being executed at Nuremburg in 1946 for helping orchestrate the Holocaust. His son went on to fight on both the Eastern and Western fronts and won the Iron Cross - before becoming a wine merchant after the war. He is still alive aged 98 today. His biography was first released in 2008 in German but has now been translated into English for the first time. Inside it several images, many of which have not been seen before, show the Ribbentrop's jovial-looking gatherings with Hitler (left) and the whole family posing for photos.
