Jamie's solemn return to Instagram with a photo of asparagus instead of birthday celebrations, could be a subtle hint towards his new vegetarian recipe book which is currently available for pre-order.

Last week Jamie chose to turn off comments for the post, which acknowledged that as many as 1,300 jobs are at risk from the restaurant's woes.

The TV chef, who debuted his Italian chain of restaurants in 2008, has made £240 million during his 20 years in the public eye.

Jamie attempted to revive the restaurant empire by ploughing £12.7million of his own money into the struggling business in 2017.

According to the Manchester Evening News, a member of staff who works in Manchester's Jamie Italian revealed that employees won't be receiving redundancy payouts.

Revealing his anguish over the direction of the business, Jamie's previous Instagram post read: 'I'm devastated that our much-loved UK restaurants have gone into administration.

'I am deeply saddened by this outcome and would like to thank all the people who have put their hearts and souls into this business over the years.'
