SARAH VINE reveals why she thinks Michael Gove is the right man to be Prime Minister

SARAH VINE: For the past couple of weeks there has been a bit of an elephant on this column. I've been doing my best to dance around it - but, given recent events, I just don't think I can ignore it any more. My husband, Michael Gove, the Environment Secretary, is running for PM.It has not been an easy decision to take. Well, not for me, at any rate. I think for Michael it's a bit of a no-brainer. As a leader of the campaign to leave the EU, he is determined to deliver the result of the referendum - not least because it's what he believes in, but also because he has invested so much in it, personally and politically. Of course, he did his best under Theresa May - a woman for whom I know he has huge respect and admiration, despite everything. While others threw in the towel, he stayed on, not only to try to secure a deal, but also because of his work at Environment. Now that Mrs May has finally been forced to concede, Michael has put his name forward. Left, Sarah Vine and Michael Gove pictured together in 2016, right, Michael Gove goes for a run today.

Speaker John Bercow insists Parliament will have a say over No Deal Brexit

Commons Speaker Mr Bercow (pictured main speaking in the US today) said it was not 'sensible to vacate the chair' while the 'momentous events' of Brexit were taking place. The former Tory MP, who was elected Speaker 10 years ago next month and had initially promised to leave by 2018, has now rejected claims that would quit in July. Speaking in Washington earlier he insisted MPs would have a say over a No Deal Brexit , saying: 'The idea that the House won't have its say is just for the birds.' Some Tory leadership candidates including Boris Johnson (inset) have reacted to the party's mauling at the European elections by vowing to leave the EU without a deal if necessary. The default position is that Britain will leave on October 31 and it is unclear whether Parliament could stop a PM intent on pursuing No Deal, but Commons rules have proven flexible in recent months.

Visitors get glimpse into Harry and Meghan's lives as Frogmore House throws open doors to

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex (inset top right) moved into Frogmore Cottage, on the grounds of the Frogmore Estate in Windsor, in early May ahead of the birth of baby Archie. Today, royal fans (bottom left) were able to wander through the grounds of Frogmore House (top and bottom right), allowing them to get a glimpse into the lives of Harry and Meghan. However, despite the beauty of the gardens, several visitors commented on the sound of planes flying overhead, with some wondering how the newborn royal manages to sleep with the constant noise. With Heathrow Airport nearby, 14 flights pass within a mile of the house every thirty minutes. Although visitors passed within 20 feet of Frogmore Cottage, the royal couple weren't spotted, with some saying they tried to 'peer into' the windows. Frogmore House and Gardens are only open to the public on three Charity Open Days each year, when all proceeds are donated to specially selected charities.

Oritsé Williams: Former JLS star CLEARED of raping woman at a hotel

Former JLS singer Oritsé Williams (pictured left outside court today) has been cleared by a jury of raping a woman at a hotel. The 32-year-old singer was accused of launching a sex attack on a 20-year-old tattoo artist after plying her and two pals with alcohol on December 2, 2016. Friend and tour manager Jamien Nagadhana (bottom left), also 32, was also charged with sexual touching and assault by penetration of the same woman at the pair's room in Wolverhampton's Ramada Hotel (inset left). But a jury of eight women and four men took two hours and 17 minutes to find Williams and Nagadhana, not guilty of all charges. Friends of the star have now come out in support of Mr Williams, saying he had faced 'three years of hell'. Rochelle Humes, whose husband Marvin was also a member of JLS, posted a picture of herself with Williams (right) and said he had endured 'three years of absolute hell'.

British 'Beatles gang' jihadi admits plotting to kill soldiers and police on the streets of London with drive-by shootings organised from his ISIS bolthole in Syria

Alexanda Kotey (pictured left), who was captured by Kurdish fighters in Syria last year, said he had funnelled cash to UK extremists and tried to arrange a massacre in Shepherd's Bush. Kotey said the planned London killing spree, which was foiled in 2014, was supposed to be part of a wider plan to create sleeper cells in European countries. Speaking to ITV News he also acknowledged his contacts with fellow British terrorist Mohammed Emwazi (right), the ISIS killer nicknamed 'Jihadi John'. He said the pair had worked as 'hostage keepers' in Syria to extract information from prisoners such as journalist James Foley, who was beheaded by Emwazi in 2014.

Humiliated Theresa May finally gets sympathy from fellow European leaders ahead of

A grim-faced PM insisted she would keep fulfilling her 'obligations' despite being forced to announce her departure from Downing Street. But Mr Farage, who is also in Brussels today, told reporters the next Tory leader should say the UK is leaving in October come what may, and give the EU five months to come to the table. Bolstered by the trouncing the Brexit Party inflicted on the Tories and Labour he said: 'We give an ultimatum to Brussels rather than the other way round'. Speaking at her final summit as Tory leader Mrs May said the results were 'deeply disappointing' for the Tories and showed 'the importance of actually delivering on Brexit'. She said: 'I think the best way to do that is with a deal, but it will be for my successor and for Parliament to find a way forward to get a consensus and I hope those election results will focus Parliament on the need to deliver Brexit'. European leaders are gathering in Brussels to choose the successor to Jean-Claude Juncker as President of the European Commission. Mr Juncker revealed his first meeting was with Mrs May and said he was 'crystal clear' that Brexit talks are over with Britain, adding: 'There will be no renegotiation'.

He dismissed jibes from rival camps that he is attacking Brexiteers to aid the Environment Secretary - who is running against Boris Johnson for the second time, saying he was running 'on principle'.

The broadcaster said Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis would anchor the programme in mid-June with all remaining candidates, followed by a special Question Time with the final two.

Farage says it's 'absolute rubbish' to say Theresa May's Brexit deal can be renegotiated as he blasts Jeremy Hunt for shunning No Deal and challenges him to a debate

The triumphant Brexit Party leader (pictured in Brussels today) said it was 'absolute rubbish' for Mr Hunt to suggest he could negotiate a better deal with EU leaders than Theresa May. 'Every single person here in the European Commission, and leading groups in the European Parliament, will not change by one dot or comma that withdrawal agreement,' Mr Farage told listeners as he hosted his LBC show in Brussels today. Mr Farage also slammed Mr Hunt for proposing a new UK negotiating team which would not include members of the Brexit Party.

Now Tony Blair (the man whose 'dodgy dossier' took us into the Iraq war) returns to insist Remain votes DO add up to a majority in Euro elections and claims Labour must back a second referendum

The former Labour Prime Minister was the latest pro-EU figure to attempt to turn the result away from a crushing victory for Nigel Farage (inset left). Speaking on Sky News today (main), Mr Blair said: 'You can argue about the Brexit Party coming number one - but then if you stack up the votes of the pro-remain parties it's a bigger percentage than the Brexit Party and UKIP. So what these results tell you is that this country is profoundly divided.' Yesterday his former No 10 spinner Alastair Campbell was among those who argued that adding up the votes for anti-Brexit parties saw them beat the combined Brexiteer vote (top left). But their argument is based on ignoring the 9.1 per cent of votes won by the Conservatives, who are also a pro-Brexit party. Adding those to the Brexiteer vote, as Nigel Farage argues, gives it a majority (bottom right).

Thomas 'Tommy' Gilbert Jr, 34, is on trial for the murder of his father Thomas Gilbert Sr in January 2015 in a case that shocked New York's high society. The wealthy New York hedge fund boss had cut his son's $600 allowance by $200 and stopped paying his $2,400 a month rent. Dohring, 62, who waited for hours in line, chest to chest with other climbers (footage shows the long queues), said he was forced to sit down once he finally reached the peak because the flat part of the summit is only about the size of two Ping-Pong tables, but was packed with 15 or 20 people jostling to take photographs next to a several-thousand foot drop. John Fisher, 36, from Ayr, Scotland, has been drawing since he was a small boy: 'Mainly wee dinosaurs, then doodling in my school jotters.' On leaving school he studied graphic design, but did not pursue it as a career because, ironically, 'it involved too much computer work and not enough personal input'. A career as a chef followed. His previous job - working weekends at his father's bistro in the North of Scotland - involved a four-and-a-half-hour commute each way from his home in Ayr.
