  • Cones says she received a copy of the painting along with a letter from 'Rick'
  • She has put the painting up for sale for $1million at her gallery in California

A California gallery owner tricked into thinking she was looking at portraits painted with feces during Sacha Baron Cohen's new show is now selling one of the artworks for $1million after he mailed it to her.

Christy Cones, who works at Coast Gallery in Laguna Beach, sat down for an interview with Cohen in disguise as Rick Sherman, a recently-released convict.

As part of the sketch, Rick attempts to sell her paintings that he completed while behind bars - before revealing they were made with his own feces and semen.

At one point he even goes to the bathroom to do a 'fresh' sketch, before reemerging with a portrait of Cones painted with thick brown strokes on wet paper.

After the episode featuring Cones aired last week, she received a package from 'Rick' containing her portrait.

Cones even uploaded footage of herself unwrapping the 'gift' to YouTube.

'Well, well, well,' she says after taking the packaging off, 'there's a familiar face. Looks like my original.

'Thanks Mr Sherman. Thanks for opening everybody's eyes to what art can be.'

Cones is now selling the painting for $1million, according to TMZ, which also published a letter 'Rick' sent to her.

In it, he claims to be back in prison again and painting on his cell walls, before saying he found the paining - dubbed 'Catharsis on Christy' - in his bag when he got home.

'Its been bothering me so I wanted to return it. Please accept my gift of 'Catharsis on Christy' - it comes from the bottom of my heart - or should I say the heart of my bottom!,' he wrote.

As part of the same episode, Christy was also duped into cutting off some of her public hairs and giving them to Rick to make a special paintbrush out of.

That stunt has led to an unhappy trend of people mailing hair from their own private areas to her, TMZ reports.

However, on the plus side, there has been an uptick in visitors to the gallery since the episode aired.

While Christy is not convinced the paintings were actually made from feces, she told Vulture that whatever Cohen did use smelled convincing.

'When I went in the bathroom afterward, it smelled really bad,' she said. 'I was afraid to touch anything because I'm a bit of a hypochondriac.

'When he brought that painting out to show me, I was like, ewwww. Of course they didn't show that part.'

Cohen has managed to dupe several well-known political figures including Dick Cheney and Bernie Sanders into doing interview for the show.

GOP lawmaker Jason Spencer was also forced to resign after Cohen duped him into shouting the N-word and dropping his trousers during a segment.

Sarah Palin is also another prominent target of Cohen's, though the episode featuring the former Alaska governor has yet to air.

Palin has lashed out at Cohen over the recording, accusing him of 'false valor' by posing as a disabled veteran for the interview.
