Kelly Clarkson opens up about Adam Levine leaving The Voice after 16 seasons: 'It was shocking, but I get it'
Just days after Adam Levine announced he was leaving NBC's The Voice, after being one of the show's mainstays as a judge for all 16 seasons, Kelly Clarkson revealed she was 'shocked' by the news.
Clarkson was on hand to sing the national anthem at the Indy 500 on Sunday, where she commented about Levine's sudden departure in an interview with Extra.
As it turns out, the 37 year old singer only found out the night before her now former co-star Levine made the surprising announcement on Instagram.

'I found out the night before everybody else found out. I was texting him and everybody else,' Clarkson said.
'It was kind of a shocking thing,' she added. 'But I kind of get it. He's been doing it for eight years — that's a long time.'

She added, 'It was surprising, it was surprising to everyone,' and admitted it will be strange to show up next season and not have Levine there.
'It'll be weird going to work. "Where's Adam?" But I totally get how busy it is trying to fit everything in plus having a family. That's a hard thing,' she added.
When asked if it was hard for her to balance her commitments to The Voice and other things, she said she approaches things a bit differently.

'No, honestly, I'm a little different from most people. I like to be really productive,' Clarkson added.
'If I’m not doing a job y’all see me at, I’m organizing my whole house. I’m constantly having a project, so it doesn’t bother me as much,' she added.
Clarkson did not address a report from last week that claimed Levine left the show after a rule change to The Voice that he wasn't pleased with, plus a lackluster performance at NBC's upfronts that left network execs reportedly furious.
Meanwhile Levine has booked his first gig after leaving the show as it was announced that his band Maroon 5 will be at the opening of Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida.
The pop band will perform at the 6,500 seat venue at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on October 25.

The report from TV Line claimed that Levine was not pleased about a recent rule change that didn't guarantee each coach had the same amount of contestants at the Live Playoffs.
Levine didn't have any contestants left and was reportedly frustrated that he had to be there when he didn't have any contestants left in the running.
Then after a lackluster performance at the upfronts that left NBC Entertainment co-chairman Paul Telgedy 'furious' and 'embarrassed,' he reportedly called for Levine to be fired immediately, but other sources claim otherwise.
Gwen Stefani has been slated to return to The Voice, to fill in for the departing Levine.
