Downton Abbey star Jim Carter teases little-known details of the forthcoming movie… as he admits filming ‘was a thinner experience’ as cast shot scenes separately

The movie adaptation of ITV's Downton Abbey is one of this autumn's most anticipated releases.

And actor Jim Carter - who plays head butler Mr Carson in hit period drama - has teased details of the plot which is still shrouded in mystery.

'It was a slightly thinner experience because I don't think for instance the kitchen staff met any of the upstairs staff, or hardly any of them because it was... quicker,' the 70-year-old told Reuters.

'It was 10 weeks instead of six months.'

Last week, the first trailer was released, seemingly showing the Crawley family, who live in Downton, preparing for a royal visit to the Abbey.

The TV series followed the upstairs and downstairs lives of the household, and aired on ITV from September 2010 until Christmas Day 2015.

The show gained a huge following on both sides of the pond and the movie will pick up in the year 1927, scheduled for release in September.

This summer, three months ahead of the film's release, Jim will return to Highclere Castle, where Downton Abbey is filmed.

The actor will perform in Music From Downton Abbey on June 22, alongside the show's composer John Lunn on piano and the Chamber Orchestra of London.

In character, he will host the event.
