'Of particular pride to me is the fact that I am not only teaching kids to use their superpowers, but I am also imparting valuable lessons to kids worldwide about the importance of health, exercise, and nutrition,' the ex-California governor said.

The bodybuilding icon, who is a co-executive producer on the show, will play the role of Arnold Armstrong, a mild-mannered gym teacher who gains superpowers after a cosmic incident, transforming him into a superhero by the moniker of Captain Courage.

Following a war with his rival Dr. Superior, Captain Courage loses his super powers, until a subsequent explosion of energy particles imbues a group of kindergartners with super powers, and he is their teacher, guiding them how to use their newfound abilities.

Genius Brands CEO Andy Heyward said that Lee 'loved and admired Arnold as not just an actor, but a true hero in so many ways and always envisioned Arnold for this role.'

He added that 'there will be an animated cameo of Stan Lee appearing in each and every episode' following the comic creator's passing at the age of 95 last year.

'Just as his millions of fans look forward to seeing him appear in each Marvel film, they will look forward to his presence in each episode of this cartoon,' Heyward said. 'The strong positive messaging of the series regarding health, exercise, and nutrition, coming from the credibility of Arnold Schwarzenegger, will make it a series that parents will enjoy alongside their children.'

Schwarzenegger told The Hollywood Reporter that he had past spoken with the late Lee about a possible collaboration after telling him the thought Kindergarten Cop could make for a 'fantastic sequel' - after which Lee pitched him with the details.

Schwarzenegger recalled, 'He kind of looked at me and says, "I really enjoyed that movie. That was fantastic. I loved the way you played with those kids and your communication with the kids, the fun you had." Then he was wandering off with his eyes and his wheels were spinning.'
