Cher said she wants to see President Trump sexually assaulted in prison before deleting the post and saying it was a 'stupid joke'.

The singer wrote on Twitter that she would love to see Donald Trump locked up in prison and made a 'Toy Boy of Big Bubba'.

She made the comments during a social media tirade directed at the president and calling for his impeachment.

But within hours of deleting the tweet, Cher then she 'went too far' and needed to 'check herself'.

Her tirade came after Special Counsel Robert Mueller's statement yesterday, announcing it was 'not an option' for his office to charge a sitting president.

Mueller also added the investigation into Russian collusion never looked at charging Trump and that: 'If there was confidence that the president did not commit a crime we would have said so.'

After deleting her first tweet, Cher then said it was a 'stupid joke' that 'went too far'

Since the statement, Cher posted a series of tweets branding the president a 'liar', a 'racist', a 'crook' who will 'do anything to win' and accused him of 'stealing money from the poor'.

The 73-year-old wrote the attack, mainly in block capitals and laden with emojis, in which she called on Democrats to either impeach 'or win' to get the president out of office.

Actress and singer, Cher wrote in the now deleted tweet on Thursday: 'Been Giving IMPEACHMENT MUCH Thought Throughout The Day,& I Would *love* 2 See trump Impeached,Brought 2 Trial, *locked* Up In *prison* & Toy Boy Big Bubba!! My Delight In Seeing trump Run Out Of Town On a Rail, Is More Likely *heart* over *brain*. I WANT WHAT'S BEST 4 DEMOCRATS AND DEMOCRACY.'

Just hours after posting then deleting the message, Cher then backtracked saying it was a 'stupid joke' that 'went too far', but added it was not an apology.

She wrote: 'This is Not Apology,It's a Cher 'wtf Moment'.Dont Usually Delete My Twts,But Sometimes I Need 2 Check Myself.What I Thought Of As Stupid Joke'On Paper',Went 2 Far.Think trump Belongs In Jail,but Big Bubba Joke Was Wrong.If I Twt,I Have a Responsibility. THERES IS A LINE NOT 2 *cross*.'

She also said Trump 'can't sink any lower' over claims he had the USS John McCain 'out of sight' and his name covered with a tarpaulin during his visit to Japan.

The president denied any involvement in an alleged White House order to keep the USS John McCain hidden.

It is not the first time the singer and Trump has exchanged angry words on social media.

In March Cher lashed out at Trump calling him 'evil' and 'up to his neck in corruption'.

She wrote: 'I Have Not,Nor Will I Change My Opinion Of trump,His Evil,Or His Ties To Russia.He Is up to his Neck in Crime & Corruption.'

In 2015 she said he was as 'dumb as a mentally challenged fence post', adding 'you're fired'.

The pair also traded insults over wigs and plastic surgery when she accusing Trump of wearing a 'rug'.

Trump wrote in November 2012 in response: 'I don't wear a ''rug'' - it's mine. And I promise not to talk about your massive plastic surgeries that didn't work.'

The two did manage to find some common ground after Trump wrote that 'For once, I agree with Cher', over the problem of homelessness in LA and migrants being bused into the city.

But the ceasefire did not last long with her then branding Trump an 'ignorant thug' with a 'lizard brain' who 'butchers his enemies'.
