'I love being a mum!' Charlize Theron, 43, has no regrets about being an older mother... after revealing her adopted child Jackson, seven, identifies as a girl

She's an Oscar award-winning actress, whose career spans two decades.

And Charlize Theron, 43, has offered a rare glimpse into her life as a working mother to two daughters - three-year-old, August, and Jackson, seven.

Speaking to the July issue of Marie Claire Australia, the South African-born star said she's happy being an older mum and despite her star profile, her kids have a relatively normal routine.

'I get up with them at 5:30 every day. I make them breakfast, pack their lunches,' she said.

'On weekends, we hang out with family and friends. I'll cook lasagna or steak,' she said adding that her mother, Gerda, 'co-parents' with her.

Charlize adopted her first child, Jackson, in her late thirties and she said it was the best thing she could've done.

'My 20s were really about getting a lot of stuff out of my system - wanting to experience the world, do drugs, travel to Turkey for four months with a backpack. By the time I had kids, I was really ready.'

It comes after Charlize revealed last month that her eldest child, Jackson, identifies as a girl.

Speaking with Daily Mail in April, she said Jackson revealed her identity when she was three-years-old.

'She looked at me when she was three years old and said: 'I am not a boy!',' she said.

'So there you go! I have two beautiful daughters who, just like any parent, I want to protect and I want to see thrive.

'They were born who they are and exactly where in the world both of them get to find themselves as they grow up, and who they want to be, is not for me to decide.'

Charlize said her number one priority is to love her children and set them up with everything they need to be comfortable being themselves.

'My job as a parent is to celebrate them and to love them and to make sure that they have everything they need in order to be what they want to be,' she said.

'And I will do everything in my power for my kids to have that right and to be protected within that.'
